Topic: Feature Requests / Please, please, please....Build an iPhone App

What they dropped the price to $5.99. Man now it do feel ripped off. I guess that’s what I get for trying something new right out of the box.

I still can’t believe that somebody would release what I thought was stable product and charge $9.99 for it. This product is in Alpha stages at best. I gave it beta status in an eariler post but their has been an new release and it’s just gone backwards from there.

To all who want this app please please stay away, it doesn’t work.

To the publisher, shame on you for releasing a buggy app. Please, Please fix it.

Now it there was some way to get my $9.99 back.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Clarification of Company v. Contact

I had close to this same issue and solved it by putting the “dentists” name in company field. I did this because that’s the Legal company name. Under the company name I then put all the numbers that would apply to anybody at that “Dentists” office. i.e. office number, fax….. Then if I learned information about the “Dentist” I would put that info under his name as a contact. i.e. email, cell, home address…...

Hope that makes sense.

Now for a question. Does anybody know of a good program that will take this YAML data and parse it.

Wow thank you 37Signals. I see a bandwidth spike while we all grab our data.

Thanks again.

Topic: Feature Requests / Please, please, please....Build an iPhone App

You have to disable SSL in your highrise account. Not sure I want to keep it that way but I tried it just to see if it would work.

Yea I really wish Apple or these vendors would publish the short comings of their products, before I buy them. i.e. no SSL support or the fact that the Sync doesn’t work. I guess that’s what we the user get for beating them over the head to get the app out the door.

I never did get a complete sync. It would get part of the way though and then crash. So I would have to resync and that’s when the “Extra” contacts were created.

Topic: Feature Requests / Please, please, please....Build an iPhone App

Hey all just wanted to post an update.

DO NOT SYNC YOUR CONTACTS.

I’ve been trying to sync my contacts and well it’s just flat out messed them all up. I have 4 of some contacts and 2 of others. This is a very beta version.

This app shows a lot of potential but please backup all your stuff before you start messing around with it. As for the viewing of Highrise it works great very speedy.

Again please don’t sync your contacts if you value them.

Didn’t work.
It just got much worse though. Now the app loads then hangs then crashes. All I did was reset the iPhone to see if that would help.

I feel like I’ve wasted 10 bucks on a beta app. Dang I hate how you can’t try apps.

I did that first. I will try again. You have tested this with SSL right?

Topic: Feature Requests / Viewing Groups of Contacts on Google Maps

As a stop gap solution check out the website below. It will take the addresses you exported out of Highrise and plot them on a map.

http://www.batchgeocode.com/

I use it all the time and it works great.

Topic: Feature Requests / Data export

I just amazes me that they haven’t done this yet. They are just going against everything they stand for. See my post a few up, quoting their book and web site about exporting data.

Come on 37signals don’t turn evil on us now.

Not to derail this thread but Nuevasync is a great product. I’m using it on my iPhone 3g to sync my Calendar and Contacts with my Google apps account.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Task list at bottom of Page

Hey has anybody else seen the issue where the task list moves to the bottom of the page on the Dashboard?

I’m using Firefox v3 and have had it happen on 3 different computers in the last few days. I’m thinking it started on Thursday?

Topic: Feature Requests / The real world requires a backup solution.

Jason thank you for the follow up post. I coudn’t agree with you more. You pointed out every fact we looked at before moving our CRM to “the cloud.”

My biggest concern is that 2,3,4,even 10 years from now we are going to have this massive database of information that can’t be moved or even exported out to a text file. I sure hope you guys stay around for 10 years but if you don’t then what. If I have a copy of the data then as evbart said I would have that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

The export is a function that a lot of people seem to want. At one point 37 signals said they were working on it, is this still true???

Thanks for taking the time to listen to your customers. You guys have a great product and I hope to see it stick around for years to come.

Topic: Feature Requests / The real world requires a backup solution.

Great post and very well written. I couldn’t agree more with what you’ve said.
Right from there website:

Quote:
“Network reliability
Rackspace’s systems — from the power supply to the internet connection to the air purifying system — operate at full redundancy. If one system goes bad a backup system immediately kicks in. Here’s detailed information about Rackspace’s network and data center.”
I guess the cooling system isn’t redundant???

Also a quote from there own book:

Quote:
“Also, make sure people can get their data out if they decide to leave. We make sure customers can easily export all messages and comments in xml format at any time. It’s their data and they should be able to do with it what they want.

This is crucial because giving people control over their information builds trust. You’re giving them a bridge to their data island. You’re allowing them to leave without penalty if they find a better offer. It’s the right thing to do and it builds goodwill. “

I think now is the time to start working on this issue as a user of Highrise I’m currently looking for other options. As the orginal poster said “it will be a very useful, but not always viable tool.”

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / ical feed for tasks - updates how often?

I use the iCal feed within Google Calendar and it updates about twice a day. This isn’t a Highrise problem it’s a Google problem. For some reason, I can only assume bandwith, Google has set it’s calendar to only update every so often. I wish Google would allow a function where you could at least refresh it manually, but they don’t.

If you use another app like Outlook the updates are within seconds.

Topic: Feature Requests / Printing Contact Lists

I think I figured out this function, Kind of. I see Highrise uses the ccs style sheets to print. Therefore all I have to do is go to File—>Print and there’s my print out. There’s a problem with that it only prints the first 50 contacts and I have 300+.

Does anybody have a solution for printing out a contact list to throw in a car while I’m traveling around. I did find that you can type [Company Name].highrisehq.com/people.xml and get a full listing of your contacts via XML.

Does anybody want to write some code to parse this infomation? I’m willing to pay a small fee.

Not a must have feature but it would be great if the Company logo flowed to the people attached to that company, unless you you uploaded an image for said person.

Topic: Tips & Tricks / Export Contacts and Format

Does anybody have any tips for how to nicely format the CSV file that Highrise spits out?

I know I can use Excel or Outlook but I’m trying to skip that step. I would like a program that opens the CSV and then outputs a nice little phone book that I can stick in my car.

Anybody have any ideas???

Thanks,
Mark

Topic: Feature Requests / Data export

I’m curious as to why they haven’t added this feature yet. Heck they even talk about it in there book “Getting Real”

So Team at 37 Signals please, I beg you this is a very important feature to us users.

I love this idea but why don’t you just implement it yourself. You can already leave a comment why not just mark the first line with something like “Manager Feedback” or something like that.

Topic: Feature Requests / iCal Feed, What a great Idea.

Just wanted to say thanks for the iCal feed. I don’t think there is any more reason for a calendar within Highrise. Now we can feed just about any program and feed it the tasks from within Highrise. What a great idea!!!!

See now 37signals doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel, as there are many very good calendar apps already out there. Example we use Google Apps and we have an office calendar that’s shared, which we like very much. If Highrise were to have a Calendar then that would just be another spot to enter infomation, which is a bad thing. I like to enter info only once and in one spot. Calendar stuff goes here, contacts go there, email over there…....

Great job 37signals on a wonderful idea.

Now can we please have a file browser:)

Edit: Spelling
