Topic: Highrise/Basecamp Integration

I just started and am looking for the same feature. I’d like to be able to import the BC milestones and ToDo’s (only the ones assigned to me) as tasks in Highrise.

Same here. Used Highrise and Basecamp for 1 month and already missing integration.
Is that possible these days. I mean… no integration??

I’ll throw my hat into the mix on this. We’ve begun using Basecamp and it is a dream for us to keep track of stuff. We’ve been looking for something to replace ACT/Sugar and now I find that you have a CMS? That’s awesome!!!! But wait… it’s not integrated? Not even a possibility? Guess our dollars look elsewhere…

This seems like a no-brainer (not the development/coding – the decision)!

Our company would LOVE to see this happen. It just seems silly, and contradictory to everything else going on inside these apps. There’s API’s, exports, rss, etc, etc… but zero integration with the flagship product.

Topic: Integration, please!

Hi guys long time paying BC user recently added HR (also paying) to the mix. We use BC to manage various web project and recently started using HR for a book project that will require managing a great number of contacts. Love em both, but I always seem to be in the wrong one and wishing that a feature from one was in the other (especially messages and the Milestone calendar when im in HR) .

So . . . another loyal user raising his hand and saying Please, Please, please Integrate these two great products!

Ned

P.S. In following this thread I noted Admin David H’s first response to the request for integration dates back to Mar 31, 2007. In it, he states that “We’re looking at a number of options for better integration between the applications this year.” Not to be a smart ass but . . . I’m guessing the “this year” he was referring to in March of 07 was 2007? We’re now almost half way trough 2008 and its been almost 16 months since he made that statement. Without divulging your development roadmap could you please give us an update on the status of integration? Thank you

Just another voice in the chorus: I’m ready, willing and able to pay for or beta an optionally integrated basecamp & highrise.

Please, please, oh pretty please!

Thx,

I was excited about Highrise at first but ended up thinking it really disappointing. I just downgraded today. Many of Highrise’s disappointing limitations were extra irritating because I had seen what I wanted in other 37S products. Please tie it all together!

Ok, still Watching & waiting for integration with Basecamp. But now I’m looking at Campfire too…

Ok, so maybe this is a better question for 37 Signals:(1) “If someone is currently using Basecamp, Hishrise, Campfire, etc and starts using whichever app they were not, when/if the integration is released, would we be “grandfathered” in? (2) What about the info for each? Would it now be combined?

Did I see a “Summit” app. mentioned somewhere?...

I totally agree. yes we do not want to have very complex CRM, but we do not want to open Highrise, Basecamp, Backpack and Outlook : 4 PROGRAMS / SCREEN at the same time to run our business either.

People can turn ON or OFF the features they need. But nobody wants to deal with 4 different programs. watch the short video at; http://www.apple.com/mobileme/ how simple and cool for personal use. yet business owners are dealing with a lot of different programs…. too bad.

@jonni

That is a good question. For me integration isn’t a big problem though admittedly I’m not a big Basecamp user anymore.
I can see that adding a contact you already have in Highrise might irk but beyond that I’m not certain what other integration would be of value. Should notes made about a contact appear in Basecamp? Should messages/comments made by someone in Basecamp be viewable in Hghrise? I would say no.

Highrise is essentially about tracking other people who are unlikely to be users on your Highrise account.
Basecamp is about discussing/managing the details of a project with other people.

There is this temptation to feel that all data should be made available in each product but most of the time I would suggest this is not necessary.

I suspect users are facing scenarios like this; someone on Basecamp decides to email a reply which doesn’t touch the project. You forward this onto Highrise so you don’t lose it but now it’s not on Basecamp. Hence the cries for integration.

There are plenty of ways in which users/contacts won’t play ball when using these products but “integration”, whatever that really means, might not be the first answer.

I was introduced to Basecamp a few years ago and have been using it since. Totally digg it!
I also use Daylight. Highrise is very attractive… I would love to loose daylight and have 1 ONE beautiful app.

Watching & waiting for integration with Basecamp.

Lots of half-baked ideas are being thrown around here.

Can anyone offer a solid, well-thought-out suggestion for useful integration?

One that doesn’t leave an existing element of either app (concept, controls, layout, structure, data model) in a confusing mess?

If so – please enlighten me…

Yes, I agree that Basecamp and Highrise desperately needs some more integration. It is annoying to have to record followups related to a contact in Highrise when this very much relates to a project going on in Basecamp. Even if there was a little tick box in Highrise, where the task can be show in Basecamp so that when you are looking at the progress of a project everything is in one place that would be great. I love the simplicity of 37signal products and I don’t need the integration needs to be overcomplicated, but a few simple steps could help workflow so much more.

We (200+ people company) have evaluated Basecamp+HighRise 2 times in the last year and still had to stick with our CRM+JIRA+Confluence+custom Intranet+PJS.

You should know that agile high level management dreams about using an integrated set of your products, no matter what the price is, because it pays out. Anyway it’s going to be cheaper to use BHBC than to have inhouse support unit for all of these products figure out each year non-scaleable licensing/upgrade issues.

I’m disappointed to see that enterprise focus still isn’t here.
I’ll stick to basecamp for some of my personal agile projects though.

Jason,

In that last line I meant to say “I see nothing that interests me as much as your apps.” That is, I appreciate 37s apps for what they do for my firm. However, I am interested in knowing whether am in a minority in wanting integration, in which case I could make a more informed decision about my overall systems needs. WIth lots of moving parts, integration clearly would not be easy. If it’s also something not broadly requested by your customer base, I can and will draw my own inferences about what you may naturally decide. I believe that in the past you guys have shared such information. Are you of of a mind to share it again (at some point)?

Jason,

I understand your policy on not describing your roadmap, including possible future integration between Basecamp and Highrise. Instead, could you give us an idea what you understand your overall customer bases wants most? If those of us clamoring for integration see that you have more urgent matters to attend to, we could make better informed decisions on whether to wait and hope or spend resources on other options such as developing some links of our own with your APIs or look for other solutions (I see nothing that interests me as such as your apps).

integration between Highrise, Basecamp, Backpack and Harvest would be AWESOME and make our company run super-efficiently. We’re using all four now but keeping a client’s bookings (we’re a PR firm) on a Backpack calendar they can access, but our own reminders to call the booking producer after the show to say thanks separately in Highrise (or Basecamp as a to-do) is really messy.

+1 for integration between them!!

I would prefer bulk tagging & editing, automatic handling of duplicates on import and a more comprehensive search function before any type of integration is considered.

I’m also a little unsure of what “integration” people are talking about. Our only gripe is not being able to access our Highrise contacts when adding a new user to Basecamp. Other than that, what needs to integrate?

Honestly—the lack of integration is a little ridiculous.

I think the opportunities for value (“points for integration”) are pretty obvious:

I am working on a project with multiple todos and milestones. This project involves a bunch of internal and external people, with phonecalls and emails flying around.

Wouldn’t it make perfect sense to integrate the CRM functionality of Highrise into Basecamp so that I can see calls and emails (HR) related to a (BC) milestone????

I’m sure that you are fully aware of the rabid desire amongst your customer base for integration of your products. I’m sure that you’re aware that you are poised to break into the large scale enterprise market if you offer an integrated product suite. I hear you saying over and over again, “This is a huge undertaking, it has to be done right and is going to take a long time.” while your users beg for something, anything, right now.

You made a post awhile back about your attempt to create one true CSV importer, and the lessons you learned. I think it might be advisable to apply those lessons to integration. Don’t try to implement fully-featured integration all at once. Listen to what your customers want most, and start offering the integration bit by bit from the top of the request list on down.

I must agree with Satterley here. But this can be done as well with somekind of nice intergration between the applications, so you are able to switch back and forth.

Okay, friendly people at 37Signals….....like many who use both Basecamp and Highrise I am practically BEGGING you guys for some sort of integration. It is pretty much a deal breaker for me. As SVP of new media at a medium-sized record company, I have championed the need for better contact integration via CRM for a long time. I was a bee’s dick away from signing off on a major Microsoft Dynamic CRM investment when I stumbled upon Highrise. It’s a great product, for sure, but I can’t see it working for my company in the long run.

Here are my issues: why are you guys seemingly separating two great products that have features that if combined would make the whole thing a kind of ‘1 + 1 = 3’ scenario??? If Basecamp had a proper calendar that you could email tasks to, and have those individual tasks drop into your calendar with a precise time it’d be brilliant. If both products shared the same contact base. If Basecamp had the tagging functionality that Highrise has….the list goes on. And it is so desperately frustrating as I would LOVE to flick the switch tomorrow for a supercharged Highrise and get my 120+ user base on board pronto if 37Signals created ‘HighCamp’ (as another forum participant suggested).

Can’t you please (at least) throw us all some crumbs and give us a peek at the roadmap for the Highrise & Basecamp products? If I thought that you guys were definitely launching some kind of integrative processes or a hybrid in 3-6 months I reckon I would hang in there and wait. But with no real signals from you….let alone 37…..I am kind of ready to split…...
