<body>Is it possible to assign a client/contact to a category or to tag them?

I run a podcasting and new media network.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSPN

I have a few different types of contacts that I plan to add to my new HighRise account.

I have consulting clients
I have equipment sales clients
I have premium content subscribers
I have people who have attended a webinar
.... You get the point

Some of these clients fall into multiple categories at the same time. I have some consulting client who have purchased equipment from me, who are monthly premium content subcribers, and who have attended at least one of my webinars

I just read that MailChimp works with HighRise. I'd love to be able to go to the contacts screen and export a list of all the emails of all my clients who fall into just one of those categories or labeled with one of those tags.

Is anything like this possible or should I move this into the feature request section?

Thanks!

<body>Why are only Blackberries and iPhones provided solutions. I sent an email a while back to 37signals suggesting an web page formatted for mobile browsing. Their response was no plans.

I recently sent an email to wired thing maker of Bungalow for Highrise. Although they stated they had had numerous requests the market share was not enough to recover their costs. (They charge a measly $2 for their app easily worth ten times that.)

Apple and RIM only have a 70% market share for smartphones. One would think someone would see value in an additional 30%. Palm's pre is doing well and Verizon has Droid generating a lot of buzz. Stop being so focused on the largest chunk of the market.

In short I guess my point is myself and others like me will be forced to look for other solutions besides what 37signals and their partners provide.</body>

Associating contacts with each other is incredibly important to our business--we're still new to Highrise, and the lack of this feature could be a deal breaker for us.

I've tried adding them to the background section, but having to copy and paste or re-type takes time that could be easily saved with a clickable link.</body>

<body>ahh, the famous reports within HR querie. Still waiting for this most obvious of features. You will be getting a response to this questions from a third party reporting co quite quickly I would think. Hopefully, reports from within Highrise are coming soon. No real indication from them whether it is actually on the development schedule. Would be nice to know if it is on the horizon. Not thrilled so far with the third party solutions that are available.</body>

    <body>Guys,

anyone know how to run reports?

So for deals, which we want to use as sales leads, we want tobe able to run a report to see where they all are.

Also can you add custom fields/

So we want to know when lead progresses, so from 10% through to 100% - where can we do this?

Any idea about being able to size the lead - small, large etc?

Cheers

<body>I'd like to toss my hat into this ring. I have to admit, I'm not going to upgrade to a paid account until something like this is an option. Mainly because I'd like to upload all my old leads and pending deals from the passed year in case some of them come through next year. However, there are so many that it's a waste of time to add them one by one.</body>

<body>Feature: Add the Company name in the drop down for Attach this Note to a Deal as well as the name of the deal.

Why: Because if you sell the same product to multiple clients, you cant attach to a deal because they are all called the same thing and adding the company name into the name of the deal is ugly in the deals section.

Detail:

This may well just be the way we are using Highrise, but thought I would raise it incase anyone else has a work around other than the one stated here.

Scenario : I want to add a note to a company to say that we have invoiced them. My logic is NOT to add it to the deal, but to add it to the Company, I can then use the drop down to Add this note to a deal to select the deal relating to this invoice.

However, in Deals, I name the Deal say 'Button Design'. I may have 20 of those on going with differing companies. When I hit the drop down in the company stream to attach the note to a deal, I get the Deal Name 'Button Design' 20 times, listed, I have no way of telling which of those deals is this company.

I could name every deal with the name of the company as well, but then the deal looks like 'X-Com Ltd : X-Com Ltd : Button Design,in the Deals section, which is ugly and of no use other than in this one drop down.

A fix would just involve including the name of the company as well as the name of the deal in the 'Attach this Note to a Deal' drop down in the Attach note section of the company/contact stream.

I guess this only applies to people who have repetitive products to sell to multiple clients?

Any thoughts?</body>

<body>The specific issue here is Deals. There are no tags for Deals . I'd have to really think about it too, whether tags would work. It would certainly be better than the current Deals tab. As I have mentioned earlier, I dont even go there. Unfortunately, I have had to use youcalc which I am not happy about. I can at least view all of my deals in a spreadsheet this way. But it is still ALL of the deals and it imports columns that I dont want to see so every time I update I have to delete columns and re-create the format in which I want to see the data.
I would like to be able to , within HR, look at a spreadsheet of my deals and have the ability to hide Won deals and backburners (and any other categories or statuses that I choose). Still want access to them for review and update activities but have deals layered so that I can make that choice. Right now I have exactly 90 deals in my hopper. Problem is, 29 are won and 61 are pending and I have to look at them all. Within each of these 2 statuses I have a variety of categories and they are not manageable from within the Deals tab.</body>

<body>We use Highrise a lot, relying on it for managing emailed task requests from our clients in particular.

The frustration we have is assigning tasks to other users, which we frequently do (email to dropbox, open task, edit task, assign to another user. *sighs*). I've also noticed a number of other feature requests which could be tackled with a similar solution such as email or task categories.

I've used Wordpress a fair bit, which has a post-by-mail feature which works in a neat way, allowing the sender to insert 'shortcodes' the body of the message to set a tag, category, post date and various other things.

This seems an ideal solution to setting tasks by mail; shortcodes:

[category call]
[user john doe]
[date 12/12/09|14:00]

etc.

HR needs to strip out those codes for the email body, of course.

I'm certain that this is simple enough for most users to understand and use, and would save a heap of clicks and time in this process.

Pretty please?</body>

<body>Is it possible to search for multiple tags at once, f.e. "new customer" AND "place" (just as an example.)

Or for an tag and the country inside the contact information?

Thanks in Advance for your reply.

<body>I like that you can choose a specific mail and forward it on. I don't know which mail is most relevant until later when I need it. I like your product more than Relenta but I like the idea of all my mail correspondence being under each client so I can quickly look up the history of our contact.

How can I attach all of my incoming and outgoing mail?</body>

<body>I would love the ability to re-arrange tasks just like in Basecamp based on priority. I find it really hard staying on task in the day but being able to arrange tasks based on priority would help.

Such a simple feature - please add this!</body>

<body>Sarah I have tried using tags to solve this issue. The truth is sometimes the simplicity of your product causes much stress. The deals tab needs plenty of work, it doesn't represent the "real life" sales process.</body>

<body>Just pulling your chain. Thanks for the feedback.
I have used a fair number of CRM apps over the past 15 or so years (ouch) and I have found HR to be the one that works the best for my needs . There are certainly some upgrades that I would like to see (features that I left behind in other CRM and Notes programs , most notably Prophet and Evernote) that I know would help me in my daily use of the application. That being said, I have also been intimately involved in product and software development and I know how much work and time must go into it. Being on this side of the equation just makes me a little more impatient.
Cheers,</body>

<body>I'm definitely not Jason, Stormer, but I can say we do actually make changes to Highrise almost every day. You can follow along here:
http://highrisehq.com/changes

The thing is every request, even the smallest most obvious improvement, takes a lot to implement. We've got to consider how it's going to affect every other feature, every user, and the overall future of the product. Once that happens, we've got to schedule someone on our team to make the change, and that takes time, too. Our responses here that say "Hey good idea, we'll think about it" mean just that. We actually do keep track of these requests, and we try to roll them into changes we make to Highrise. (The majority of changes we've made to Highrise that you can see are actually the result of user suggestion.)

If we don't think something is a good idea, or something that can't be worked into Highrise, we'll say that when it's appropriate.

So I know it seems repetitive and maybe a bit vacant, but the truth is we're here, we're paying attention. We do like a lot of ideas we see, but we can't always guarantee they're going to find their way to Highrise.</body>

<body>Sarah, if you are half as cute as your picture then I totally understand why 37signals is using you to respond to our requests. The problem is you keep saying the same thing for every suggestion and there haven't been any significant upgrades for quite a while. You just look too cute to get mad at. For all we know, you might actually be Jason using a picture of a sweetie in pigtails to keep the masses from rioting. :-)
I am glad you folks are paying attention....it would just be nice to see some of the suggestions acted upon.</body>

<body>My assistant is not as computer savvy as I am. I setup a word file linked to an Outlook contacts folder so that, for her to perform a mail merge, she only needs to open the word file, say "yes" to update the linked data, preview the list of contacts in the merge, put the paper in the printer and hit print.

How can she do this using HR? All posts I have read here indicate the HR contacts must be exported first to CSV or excel and then "perform a mail merge." Yes for you and me that's easy, but what about an admin assistant??

HR is simple and therefore she knows how to use it... that's really great! However, if I ask her to export to CSV and try a mail merge into Word... it would take her several hours and lots of help from me.

Cannot HR have a "simple" way of mail merging so that I do not have to train my admin on data fields, file format, and Microsoft tool wizardry?
Thanks,
Dustin</body>
