Mobile version?

I noticed a feature request for a pda version… I don’t use a pda, so a mobile version ala Backpack would be great. I use the ‘add item’ page from Backpack as my cell’s home page, it would be nice if a feature like this was available for Highrise too.

I’m not sure if you guys know this but you’re sitting on a great shopping application. I can create a company, like the local coffee shop and add a task like buy coffee and categorize it ‘errand.’ While I’m out I’d like to be able to see and check off a list of tasks, preferably both the tasks view and the company view.

A mobile version would be great. We have 5 techs using PDA’s and would like to have access to company contacts.

I’d even love to have access to a reasonable view from my blackberry.

A mobile version would be great…

I second the motion.

From a sales perspective- it would be great to walk out of a meeting and jot down a few quick notes on my Treo web browser before I forget that customer x’s favorite ice cream flavor is Rocky Road.

I can do that now, but the formatting is not small-screen friendly.

Quick Update-

I actually did try to get onto the site with my Treo and it isn’t functional at all.

I can see links and tabs, but text does not show up.

(what about providing Blackberry Enterprise Server to Max/Premium customers?)

I would love a simple way to view todos remotely, ala Backpack.

Currently I put things like shopping lists that I’m liable to need when nowhere near a computer on Backpack. The mobile interface it provides is fantastic for this.

I found a ruby on rails app that you install on your own server that provided a mobile interface for Basecamp, but it doesn’t work for me.

EDIT: Sorry, I thought I was on the basecamp forum for a second there. Some of this still applies, though. :-)

-1 on Blackberry for Max/Premium, why just for people who pay the most? I don’t need unlimited users now and it would probably encourage more people to use it if there were mobile access for them.

PS- The fact that text reminders include the contact info is great. Kudos!

I’d like to access/add contact info, tasks, and notes.

I’ve built a bare bones web interface using the Highrise API that enables access to your contacts/tasks from mobile phones. This is not a sync. tool. It’s a slimmed down web interface to Highrise.

The product is available at http://parkplacetogo.com. Note that this is a paid product, similar to opendoor, the bulk tag editing/contact deleting utility.

Mobile access would be most useful.

It kinda irritates me to have to pay extra for stuff that should be in there already

+1 on mobile access. Something like what Backpack has. That works great on my Treo 650.

Perhaps if this Plaxo sync thing gets off the ground, problem solved…

Okay, so i’ve been using highrise for about a month, and then I found another service this week that sort of stole away the fire from highrise for me. It’s called Keepm – (www.keepm.com)

One of my biggest complaints with highrise was that I couldnt access my contacts from my cell phone. (the other being there are more features than i know what to do with, plus paying for it) Keepm HAS a mobile version, and allows you to search for your contacts from it… a very useful feature i only wish highrise had. Plus, It’s free. I’ve got the free highrise version now, but I was strongly considering moving to a paid plan realizing how many contacts I had…. I dont think thats teh case anymore.

Keepm really impresses me, and I think you guys that are struggling with much needed features in highrise will appreciate the simplicity of it. Look for yourself…. I spoke with the guys behind it the other day, and they mentioned a full featured, advanced search that will be available. Yet another feature highrise is lacking.

Anyway, enough babble, try it for yourself.

Even though I love 37S, BaseCamp & Highrise, you gotta love competition. I signed up for keepm to try it… and honestly I’m not impressed. However, I really do wish there are good alternatives to help drive innovation… and much needed features.

BTW, mobile is not exactly a biggie for me yet, but it will be once iPhone comes out… so +1

After using this for a little while now (and upgrading to solo), I have changed my mind. I no longer feel it would be most useful. I think it’s critical. PLEASE add a full mobile version.

+1 I agree… For what we do, and the budget we are on, we Highrise is a sweetspot. MOBILE ACCESS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE….we rely on face to face contacts and being on the road is a must. Mobile access is sorely neeeded…

another $.02 worth.

+1 – a mobile version is absolutely necessary!

FYI: The first place we’ll be focusing on mobile access will likely be for the iPhone.

Avatar gobstopper 108 posts

Well if that ain’t a declaration of partisanship I don’t know what is : ). We’re all Mac here but I’m not going to give up my feature-stuffed full-keyboard batwinged Nokia E70 for a keyless podphone. Nice bit of marketing though, the blogosphere will be abuzz.

Seems like Treo & Blackberry would make more sense – I’m not sure the iPhone is really being marketed as a business tool.

Why the iPhone? Cool commercials and cool phone, yeh!
Does “focus” mean the rest of us are screwed when it comes to mobile?

Does “focus” mean the rest of us are screwed when it comes to mobile?

Screwed? Why make yourself into a victim? I simply said “The first place we’ll be focusing on mobile access will be the iPhone.”

We believe the iPhone will be a great platform for mobile access for Highrise and our other apps. The iPhone allows us to deliver the same level of customer experience on a mobile device that we can deliver on a standard web browser. We believe that’s important.

I’ve had about 15 different phones over the past 3 years and in my opinion the mobile web experience on each one has been laughable, inconsistent, and downright terrible (with just a few exceptions). That’s not an arena we want to play in right now.

As far as the iPhone not being a “business tool”—I think that’s just a load of FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt). I run a business and I’ll have an iPhone. Millions of small business owners will have an iPhone. A lot of our customers are the types of people who will own iPhones. Estimates point at about 7-10,000,000 iPhones sold within the first 12 months. The price starts at $499. The buyers won’t be unemployed. They’ll have jobs, they’ll own businesses, they’ll run organizations. They’ll love to use their 37signals products on their phone.

So that’s where we’re going to start.

Avatar Chemnitz 150 posts

What a surprising response. It’s definitely an interesting way to treat the requests of your customers and potential customers.

No fear here – but definitely uncertainty and doubt. It seems pretty foolish for me to be certain about something that hasn’t been released. I don’t trust something I haven’t used or seen in action. And I don’t need another music player.

And I didn’t say the Apple device was not a business tool, only that “I don’t think [it’s] being marketed” as one. Well, those of us who’ve already invested significantly in our handheld devices (mine has great internet access, by the way) know where we stand. I’m thankful at least for that.

Jason,
I understand the thought process of going with the iPhone. I would love to have one.

There’s only one issue- I use software for the service industry that is only offered for Windows. In fact a lot of service related businesses are going paperless and improving communication with similar applications and are limited, in most cases, to only one platform and sometimes one service provider. The iPhone is not an option at this point in time for most, if not all, of those users. The management of those same companies are also, in most cases, required to use the same device or carry two devices.

I agree the internet experience is laughable on most phones but the newer phones have made a lot of progress. I’m not looking for magic. Just to be able to pull up a number that I don’t have in my phone or make a quick note.
