New Features: Public cards, Daily task email, better vCard support

Last night we pushed some updates including:

Public Contact Cards

Public contact cards make it easy to share someone’s contact information with anyone who needs it. For example, if a friend asks if you can recommend a plumber, and you have one you’d recommend in your Highrise account, you can share that plumber’s public card with your friend. Now your friend has all the information they need to get in touch with the plumber. Here’s an example.

Daily task email

Every morning at 6am you’ll get an email that lists your tasks for the day. You can turn this feature off if you like by clicking on the “My Info” link then the “Task Reminders” tab.

Stronger vCard import

Even though vCards are “standardized” they apparently aren’t. So we’ve been hard at work catching the edge cases and smoothing out the rough edges. We think we’ve got the majority of them taken care of now.

We’ve also made a handful of smaller changes under the hood. We hope you like the new features.

Thanks again for your support!

Jason – awesome to see things moving! Great changes. One question: Would it be possible to make the “Public card” area a little less intrusive? For example, on company screens it drops the “People in this company” section down three lines or so…

Jake that was fixed. Public card is not below the About section. It should show up in the app shortly.

Why no hCard love?

We do actually intend to roll out hCard love when we resolve the weirdness around person/company. Seems that hCard share that fun stuff with vcard in terms of ambiguity.

37S,
Very very cool. Love the public card feature. In the future, might there be a way to simplify the address for “your” data, that is, the “me card”. This might be a little more professional if you use it to display your own info for people. Also, I don’t understand how spam bots work, would they be able to pick up these emails and phone #s?

Jason – for companies, it’s under “About” but above “People in this Company.” That’s what I was talking about. Not really a big deal.

One request on the public cards: in order to use email-in, I have many, many addresses in my info (all the addresses from which I might need to email-in a task). I’d only like one or two to appear publicly. How about a “hide this from others” option when entering an email address?

I have a question about public cards – are they also open to search engine spiders and scrapers? If no, none of my colleagues will want me publishing them.

I’m not seeing the share contact button.

I noticed that I had a contact who belonged to a company. He had no direct number so I never added it to him, I couldn’t share him, even though he had an email address. The company have a telephone number and I can share them. Does each person have to have a direct number attached to be able to share?

EDIT: Yes it does. Does that seem right? Not all my contacts want to be contacted by phone so I only have email.

Double EDIT: I just deleted the number and now I can share him? Is that a caching issue?

Can I just say that I think the actual design of the System Announcement is excellent? So simple, so cool…

Could it be made optional that the search box be shown in the header of each page and not as a tab? Clicking a tab to get to what is probably going to be the most used feature is a pain.

@NickToye

Could you explain further what did you do to activate the “share contact” button?

I cannot see any in any of my contacts or Companies

Can anyone share with me how to get the “share contact” button to appear?

I am using Safari Version 3.0.3 (522.12.1)

Thanks

Is everyone’s “share contact” button showing up as per Here’s an example ?

Hi Forrest. The public card feature was barely being used so we have removed it for now.

Avatar forrest2828 13 posts

Ok Ryan thanks for your confirmation.

Thanks for installing a feature and then removing it. The time I spent using it and telling others about it was just spare time anyway. Also- much thanks for not letting us know. It’s better bad new comes as a surprise.

Sounds like what they did with the Links feature on Backpack. Removed without notice, resulting in hours of stuffing around trying to get pages to work properly. What was a simple action now takes three times as long. </rant>

Hi guys. Just to clear on what “barely being used” means. We ran the numbers and less than 0.04% of contacts were shared with the public card feature, and most of the 0.04% were trials.

Thanks for your feedback on how this was handled. We appreciate it and we’ll surely keep it in mind.

Let me join the fray in expressing the sentiment that you will gain my companies business as soon as you have the ability for me to import my contacts fairly easily from Salesforce.com – which we have been tied to for a couple years.
