Adding Tags to CSV Export

We have a situation where our contacts are part of different groups and we’re tagging them as such. For example purposes let’s say we have groups called “red”, “blue” and “yellow.” Some people are members of only one group but many people are members of multiple groups. When we export the contacts to a CSV file we would somehow like to maintain group membership in that information. The ideal would be to have a tags field in the CSV where each tag was listed and separated by a comma. 1 – Is this possible?2 – If it’s not is there another way to accomplish this? I guess we could export each tag separately but we would end up with a lot of duplicates and need a way clean that up.Thoughts? |

+1 I think it is a great idea to have the tags export as well into the CSV file. |
+1 I second. You should fix this Highrise, I am extremely surprised this does not exist! If anyone more agrees, please show your support in order to get this prio. |

Quoting Jon Bischke: I wanted to bring this feature request back up….it would be VERY handy to have this field in the CSV. |
+1 for this, as reiterated here. |
Me too please!!!! Being able to export the tags associated with each contact, in a CSV file, would make it possible to do all sort of social network analysis, via other software (e.g. UCINET) |

+1 for including tags as additional columns in CSV exports. But what to do with controlling the number of CSV columns for accounts with huge number of tags? |
I don’t see why a huge # of columns would be a problem. I assume most users aren’t going to be looking at the raw CSV data itself, but importing it into a spreadsheet, UCINET, an external database, or some other program that will be creating views/filtering/sorting on the tag data. (Unless you’re stuck with an old version of Excel, lamely limited to 256 columns). |

Reading back to the first post in this thread, it would seem that only one additional column would be necessary which listed all the tags associated with that record and separated by a comma. |

+1 Here too … BTW, I dropped you a line Richard to ask for a copy of your HI app … :-) |

Richard Haven: just wanted to let you know that you don’t have to respond to my post by telling me that your software includes tags. I know it does, but I’d prefer not to go 3rd party route at this point. Thanks. 37s: I just wanted to flag this CSV export sans tags as an issue again. Christmas card mailings are fast approaching and we need tags included in the CSV export to efficiently slice-and-dice the mailing list before we do the mail merge (i.e., to create mailing labels). Also, the need to do the ANSI > UTF-8 encoding conversion to fix accented characters is super annoying. Perhaps you could get these changes in for us as an early Christmas present? ;-) |
I would just like to add myself to the list of people who would really like to be able to import tags or even just tag a group of contacts at once on HighRise. |
37S: what do you want for Christmas, customers? Customers: tags in CSV exports! ;-) |

+1 also – how do you find the contacts WITHOUT tags so that you can go back and classify them? |
Tag import/export is a major barrier for us. We have spent a lot of time testing HR and find its simplicity elegant and powerful. The tags are a great solution to the dozens of categories that are structured into other CRM solutions. But the value of tags are greatly diminished without impoort/export capability. My company has several thousand contacts that are already tagged from Outlook categories. The thought of losing those tags, recreating them and then not being able to export them again keeps our company from jumping on the bandwagon. What are we to do? |
Yes, Yes, Yes. We need to be able to export tags. As a substitute for database fields, the ability to export records with tags to .csv so that you can get them into a spreadsheet if vital to our continued use of HighRise. And, quite frankly, whether we can recommend it to others. Last week, I talked with someone in Europe who said he was NOT going to use HR exactly because of this limitation with tags. |
we need to be able to export everything tags alone doesn’t cut it. |
Super important! Please – tags on both Import and Export. |
Yes – very important |
+1 would be most helpful… also being able to import w/tags – just got back from two trade shows and have two lists of a few hundred folks to bring into HR – need a way to tag them before putting them in the system |
I agree. This is the only feature that’s ever made us consider switching programs. |
Me Too. My client is a little peeved I recommended a system with no built-in backup. |
Yes. Especially since Highrise is lousy at giving you tabular views – and not even giving you ‘number of records found’ when you search for a tag, so a workaround would be to export to Excel and count there—but no, you can’t export tags… |
