Topic: Miscellaneous / Messages and files

Second this!!!! I really need a way for designers to post a file that I can then attach to a message. I also frequently need to go back to older files and create new messages. Right now I drag the message out of basecamp and repost.

Topic: Feature Requests / iPhone-Compatible App?

Let me add that with the bandwidth available now with 3G, I’d like to be able to post Quicktimes for my clients to view and comment on. I’ve been unable though to get it to work. Any suggestions?

Topic: Feature Requests / File names or description fields in Grid view on Messages

We just went through a brutal week of clients looking at approval frames we sent in a message. They’d see the JPEGS in grid view and say, “We like the third one from the left or “We like the one on the second row.”

Of course on our screens there was no second row and it’s really difficult to call a client stupid by saying, “Can you hover your cursor over the file and read off the file name?”

Descriptors or the file name under the icon would be great.

Thanks,

Mitch

Topic: Feature Requests / Comment Order

For that matter, comments should be nested. People are simultaneously responding now to the emails and we’re getting people talking past each other on comments.

Topic: Miscellaneous / Little Printer

Jason,

One place we really need that is in the Milestone views, both individuals and the entire team. It would look best to me if it wasn’t a calendar, but was instead more like the Milestones view looks in an indivual project. I go into meetings where I don’t have a computer and it would be great to be able to take a list of every project and milestone we’re working on so I can make notes and give answers about our workload.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Printer Icon in Milestone View

It’s almost embarrassing how bad that looks when you hit it.

I really have always needed a Milestone printout and when I saw that there I was really excited. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t work at all.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Avatar Icons in messages.

I like them. We’ve already gotten a few requests by people asking how to add their picture. Anything that draws people into Basecamp makes me happy….even if it is a bit juvenile.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / New Basecamp emails - correct behavior?

Let me just add that in one day of use, there has already been a huge surge in interactivity from our clients and casual users. This is the greatest thing that’s happened since we’ve adopted Basecamp.

+1 on the email comments not showing up on the recent activity screen.

Topic: Feature Requests / Milestone Notification

I hear you, but the admins in our system are subscribed to all of our one hundred projects, but we’re not necesssarily working on those given projects. I cannot force the people on a team who are not power users to use RSS, but they all do use email.

Topic: Feature Requests / Milestone Notification

It would be great to be able to optionally turn on (or send to admins only) an email notification when a milestone is checked off. Recently we had someone on a team accidentally check off the wrong milestone on a project and we weren’t made aware it wasn’t done until the client called asking for it.

Topic: Feature Requests / Milestone Sorting

We’d love to see the completed Milestones sorted so that the completed ones are at the top not at the bottom. We sometimes have dozens of milestones in a given project and it gets really tedious having to go back and forth between the top of the page to see what still needs to be done and to the bottom to see what just has been done.

Topic: Feature Requests / Please reinstitute "Never Logged In"

Agreed. I admin our system and have almost 100 users. I need to know when someone has never joined up. Otherwise, I assume there’s a problem.

Topic: Feature Requests / Adding files to Messages

+1 on this as well. I frequently create new messages to bring new people into conversations and need to reference files that are already there.

I don’t mind them so much so that I see important and new things. I just wish there was a way to dismiss it so I don’t see it more than a couple of times.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / All people are getting assigned to new projects

David,

Thanks so much. My producers are going to be so relieved.

Ironically, I had just figured out a way around it by creating yet another “company” that would be full of the administrators and then I was going to use the “XXXX can access” pane in People to add people one at a time into the projects.

Either way, this product rules!

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / All people are getting assigned to new projects

Argh…

“Assign to all future projects” was a very important feature for us as well, as it automatically added the default management group to every new project. Now I’m going to have to create the project, add the company, remove everyone, add the default people back in and then add the assigned team.

Basecamp is supposed to be about simplicity and this isn’t simple. You all refuse to give us project templates and then remove the one feature that even remotely served as a template.

I do, however, like the new “XXXX can access…” pane in People. That’s useful and will be even more so if you add back a radio button there for automatically assign to all projects.

Thanks,

Mitch

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / All people are getting assigned to new projects

It’s easier because opting-in always causes fewer errors than opting-out. If a producer (in our case the person that initiates new projects) misses that step, people in a given group are going to be put into a project and nobody is going to catch it until they call up asking why they’re suddenly assigned to something they’ve never heard about.

Prior to today, I’ve used a company called Vendors to lump all my freelancers together. Now I’m going to be forced to separate them all out into separate companies because I cannot risk a producer accidentally assigning all the vendors into a new project and compromising confidential information.

I have to admit I’m kind of shocked by the “see how it feels” attitude. This decision has serious implications and I’m nearly certain if you polled or focus grouped your users they’d be opposed to it. This mindset assumes a very flat organization and I work in one that is anything but. We have marketing people in a competitive environment and freelancers and staff working on confidential projects and the notion you would want everyone in some company automatically opted-in to such confidential projects really puzzles me.

I love Basecamp, but when this change got implemented this morning I got howls of protests from our producers. They were certain it was broken. That’s how alien this seems.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / All people are getting assigned to new projects

David,

I’m totally cool with All/None as long as the default is click add company and the default is nobody. It’s far easier to click add company and then click all than it is to click add company and then remove 24 people. Again, since we use companies as departments we always add all the “companies” into a new project and then figure out who in the “companies” is actually working on the project.

Thanks.

Yes.

That’s exactly what we want. We use companies as departments. We have our company, Design, then we’ve created another company called Marketing, another called Management and a third called Vendors, which are freelancers. When a project comes in we assign the appropriate designers from our team, then assign the person in marketing handling the project from their end, the manager responsible for it all, and any outside freelancers.

People see only what they’re responsible for.

You guys sell packages where people can have over 100 projects, which is what we use. I cannot fathom how someone could think that 100 projects would show up on everyone’s screen.

Thanks so much for addressing this.

NO! NO! NO!

You guys don’t give us departments within companies, so we’re forced to use companies as departments. My producers have been howling all morning because the system is adding everyone into the projects. You must give us the ability to control how this works.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Assigning Template To-Dos

Is there a way to bulk assign to-dos that are are added to a project? I want to be able to have a set of templates that people can select and then that cluster of to-dos is assigned to one person with one click.
