Topic: basic calendar - separate from milestone

I can’t believe there isn’t a calendar feature in basecamp. This is a must for me.

For those of you embedding the Google calendar, could you please help the rest of us out with step-by-step instructions?

Also, here is one specific problem I’m having: I tried embedding the i-frame link from GC into a writeboard on BC, but it looks like I have to make the calendar public for users to view it from within BC. Otherwise I get this error message: “Events from one or more calendars could not be shown here because you do not have the permission to view them.”

Does the GC have to be public? What are the implications? Does that mean that any user (including outsiders) can access my calendar? If so, then I just can’t use this solution.

My firm has been using Basecamp for several years now. The one and ONLY fault with it is we DESPERATELY need a general calendar feature. One that we can, for instance, record time out of the office. Milestones & To-Do lists is how we “jimmy-rig” it now, & it’s frustrating. We really, really, really did a general calendar feature, that works a lot like iCal or the Entourage calendar.

It would also be helpful to have it able to be created individually per project as well, so we can use with clients on their projects, as well as a general overview one, for our internal team.

It’s a heart-breaker because we LOVE Basecamp, and have used it for years now, but since a recent move from a shared office space to working out of our homes has scattered us location-wise, this need of ours has become GLARING, and we’ve started to research other possibility to use. HEART-BREAKING. We compensated for the lack of it in a shared office space the past few years by using the Entourage calendar. Now that we are separated, and are a combo of both PC & Mac users, we don’t have a uniform calendar system at our disposal. Basecamp would be key, because we already pay for & use daily this service. Having YET ANOTHER site we’d have to visit each day (like google calendars) is simply not efficient.

CALENDARS BASECAMP!

am i the only one to suffer from Microsoft Outlook 2003 lack of integration? i am not sure who’s the hardest to convince, my organisation’s IT team (to move to 2007) or 37signals (to support earlier versions).

I have been waiting for this addition for way too long. I am currently in the process of testing out two other web-based services that have a working calendar and plan to make a shift soon. I’m not at all happy about it b/c I love Basecamp but the absence of a calendar is just a killer problem for us.

Basically it is cheesy, not to mention alienating, to Monetize the function of a calendar.

It’s not like we’re asking for tremendous functionality from the precious brain trust of 37Signals.

As a integrated brand strategist, it just seems like a naive mistake not to deliver never mind exceed expectations.

I thought charging for value provided not the basics, was a tenet of online software marketing?

or No?

Based in the number of posts, this along with due dates for to-do’s are clearly the most sought after enhancements. Come on 37Signals – even if as per the to-do due dates YOU feel this isn’t needed the strength of opinion on the shared calendar and due dates surely indicates your CUSTOMERS do. Please please please rethink and prioritise these two amendments.

We’re considering a Backpack subscription and were disappointed we couldn’t just “add” it to Basecamp. Desperately need that calendar feature with so many of us offsite. We can live without the other options in BP but need that calendar. A tie in with Basecamp would be the more user friendly way to go. BUMP!

And another vote for calendar, and yet another request for a roadmap or some slight glimmer of a response from 37 Signals. They’re in danger of losing customers to competing products if they don’t pull their finger out – the feature already exists in Backback, how hard can it be? GoPlan looks interesting, if they were to add timesheets I’d probably already have moved over. AND, they have a roadmap.

Also another request for integration with Highrise. All excellent products, zero integration

Another vote for the calendar. We don’t need Backpack, just the calendar.

I too feel cheated that I didn’t realise there wasn’t a full calendaring function in Basecamp. My fault I guess, but it still annoys me.

+1 for a full calendar.

I’m using BC for television production. I’d really like my Producers (i.e. not apart of my “Company”) to attach Milestone events to their Messages that contain details about that Milestone; like I can as the Administrator. Its like, the functionality is there, but I can assign it to whomever. (I think I’ll post this in the Tips forum too, incase someone knows how to do that)

The BC system is working GREAT, but there are some functions that I wish would be fleshed out even more.

Here here for the calendar. I use Backpack and Basecamp for home/work. We know the calendar can be done, so why not just add it to Basecamp?

I’ve been using Basecamp for 4 years during which time the calendar has changed minimally. Forget massive changes, let’s see a sequence of incremental improvements.

Here Here!!!!!!!!! I agree with Dave. It just a matter of supporting and communicating with those who support you. (i.e. your customers). Just in case 37S continue with their current approach. Does anyone know an alternative or at least something that does communicate some kind of vision that will allow me to make better decisions?

I did some digging. This has been a request from customers since early 2006 (maybe earlier). Just curious is anyone from 37S could at least respond if this is a absolutely-never or a maybe-one-day. I know you don’t like to make promises, and you don’t believe in road maps, and you change your priorities all the time (and yet somehow you make updates). Let us know if it’s even crossed your minds.

Using Google calendar defeats the purpose of having a single system for tracking and group management. It’s a hack. It’s unsupported. It may be better than the alternative. But in either case, I would pay extra to have a calendar on the project and dashboard level that showed events (date/time), milestones (date due), and possibly even tasks (date due).

And a date/time picker would be a plus (unlike Backpack, which sis ODDLY lacking in simple date/time controls).

I just WISH that 37 Signals would understand that a Road Map is not a bad thing. Every once in awhile, you’ve got to wave a carrot int front of our faces so that we know you are actually thinking of us and our needs.

for the time being we snippet Google calendar right on the Project overview page. Note that this is not supported by 37signals, however given the alternative, we prefer it.
