Yup.

Delicious is even better. Or you you check out magnolia if you’re looking for something a bit more “designy”.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Problems with AOL and Dial-up?

Greg—in the 2+ years that I’ve been on these forums, I can’t recall anything being mentioned about AOL dialup.

You might want to email support about it though, they might have more answers.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / openid problems

Lucy—have you been through the steps in terms of adding your new openID account to your login credentials inside Basecamp?

One way of testing this would be to try logging in with your regular (pre openID) username/password.

Topic: Feature Requests / Textile is NOT simple...please add formatting

Jeremy—you’re definitely not the first to ask for this, there have been plenty of discussions on WYSIWYG editing.

Check out this thread: http://forum.37signals.com/basecamp/forums/3/topics/567

Responses from both Jason and David should clear up where they are at on this at the moment.

othello—are you using openID on both accounts?

You’ll only see the openbar if you’re using openID.

Topic: Miscellaneous / Search Forums

Hey David,

An example of search not working can be demonstrated by searching for keywords in this current thread:

http://forum.37signals.com/basecamp/posts/search?q=search+forums

Searching for the word “search” only brings up results up to May 22:

http://forum.37signals.com/basecamp/posts/search?q=search

Hope this helps.

Topic: How are you using Basecamp? / Do you use Basecamp's time tracking?

rich: Thanks! Definitely interested to hear about good experiences with similar apps, for sure. I’m not ruling out trying Harvest (price is the same, but looks like the feature set is a bit more advanced). 500 is a pretty huge number of projects to send through a system and still be happy with it, so that definitely makes an impression. Cheers.

Mike: Awesome. That’s pretty much what I figured… Now that I think about it, I would love to have snapshot reporting when I need it without having to export etc. Thanks very much for responding.

Topic: How are you using Basecamp? / Do you use Basecamp's time tracking?

My situation currently is thus:

  • I have a small (read: micro) web design business, which is really just me + contractors
  • We’re all on macs
  • We’ve been using a nifty little app called Project Calculator to track our time (not particularly accurately either, I might add… we miss a lot)
  • I don’t have (nor really want) a laptop, and sometimes need to commandeer on-site machines for demos etc when I’m not in my office
  • My contractors email me their hours, exported from Project Calculator as a PDF
  • I don’t really have much time on my hands to follow things up/tabulate/calculate stuff
  • We’re on the Basic plan at the moment for Basecamp

So basically, I’m looking for a better time tracking arrangement. I’d like to use Basecamp’s, because it’s then in the same spot as where I spend a good portion of my day. I’m not overly concerned about the jump in price, because I know how much time I’ll save in the end by doing it in a centralised way.

(At this point in the saga, it probably looks like I’ve made up my mind… not so!)

I’ve tested other web-based time tracking apps (Harvest etc) and they never really grabbed me. One thing I find about testing for something like time tracking though, is that if you only go as far as fiddling with it (the app/solution) you never get a feel for whether or not it’s working. True fact.

I’m really interested in responses (if I may be so bold to ask) from people who are using/have used Basecamp’s time tracking feature.

Why do you like it? Is there anything specific about it that helps/hinders managing your time?

[As someone who is usually in the opposite position to the one I’m in now (replying to posts rather than starting them), this is all somewhat nerve wracking.]

Big ups in advance.

Hey Cindy,

No offense was meant to you at all—I thought your original post was absolutely on the money. Apologies if it came across a bit cryptically.

The chuckle-worthy part was Jason’s response. I figure he has misread something in the post because it really isn’t up to you to chase up a forum bug with the Beast devs, as far as I’m concerned anyway.

The broken search feature is most likely the reason why people have been opening new threads on previously-discussed topics. As this is clearly a no-no (which I agree with), it’s up to 37s to make sure the forum works to accommodate good practice.

So, in short, we’re with you.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / dead link in basecamp settings

Yeah, looks like a link back to the old everything.basecamphq.com site.

Which reminds me, the “refund policy” link under “Need to cancel your account?” section of the Account/billing page also points to a dead page.

(I’m not cancelling my account! That’s not why I clicked it… I was just… ah… checking?)

Hey Peter,

That’s actually your browser doing the editing, not Basecamp. You should be able to change your preferences/spellchecker language through the browser itself.

Nope! (is the short answer)

;)

(But you can sort by message category, if you need to. And there’s always search)

bobmonsour – not really doable, in my experience. The file picker is an OS-level widget, and as such not something that can be controlled by Basecamp (or any other webapp for that matter).

Very very cool. Highrise integration will be awesome too (and I’m sure will encourage me to use it more!)

Just another thing worth mentioning:

If you switch to using OpenID, and you use iCAL (or similar), you’ll need to re-subscribe to your iCalendar feed from the dashboard, as your URL token will have changed.

Just so you know, y’know? (I spent a little while fruitlessly trying my new OpenID pass combo into iCal when it started complaining about my password changing… deleting/resubscribing fixed it good)

Douglas – has Company A been added to that project? Is does sound like you are part of the main company (in that you can see other companies in the drop-down), but it may be that Company A isn’t actually attached to that particular project.

You can double-check by having a look under the People tab from within the project in question.

Topic: System Announcements / How many Basecamp accounts do you have or are you a part of?

By my reckoning, I use at least five—three of which are accessed weekly if not daily.

Two company accounts (one paid, one free), and at least three client accounts. It’s really not too difficult to manage with Keychain’d account credentials and relatively long session times, but One Dashboard To Rule Them All would be awesome. ;)

timhayes—check your timezone settings for your company (ie, edit your company from the People tab)

This is most likely what is causing the problem.

Topic: Tips & Tricks / Transfer account ownership to another company?

Nicely done, 37s (even though this may have been 6 months ago and I’m quite out of the loop).

Same here! I only noticed this the other day—was explaining to a client (a primary school) that they’d need to spend some time thinking about their company structure, because they couldn’t easily swap people around. Had to eat my own words within seconds of saying them.

Just another example of this, I guess.

Topic: Tips & Tricks / Can we track Client LOGIN activity?

Looking at the API reference for “Contact management” in Basecamp, it would be a (relatively) trivial exercise for someone you know with some programming nouse to whip up a page that

  • Pulls a list of all the companies you have listed in your ‘camp
  • Uses the company ID to grab all the people for each company
  • Prints the name and “last_login” attribute for each person

Deverloperland links:

Hope this helps.

Topic: Feature Requests / Printing Milestone Calendars?

In the meantime, you could import your (shiny, new) global iCalendar feed into Google Calendar (or iCal if you’re on a mac) and use their printing capabilities to get what you need.
