Topic: What happened to Plaxo sync? In my two experiences with Soocial (tried at the beginning of the beta and again last week), this Highrise-Soocial sync is still far from ‘beta’. They target only ‘work’ contacts, it mis-syncs companies and re-assigns them as contacts, creates duplicates, and even wiped my entire Highrise. Just a fair warning. |

Topic: Add a FAVICON! Ok, so I was facing this same problem and here is the solution I used. First, let me say I am using Firefox. I found an extension called Favicon Picker I created bookmarks for each of the sites I use (Basecamp, Backpack, Campfire and Highrise) and for each one I downloaded the PNG file from the main 37signals.com site. You click properties on the bookmark and then can use “browse” to choose the PNG file to be used as the favicon in the bookmark folder AND it is also used in the tab. I use this together with the addon FavIconize Tab to save me a lot of real estate AND my tabs are real pretty. |

Topic: Add a FAVICON! I use basecamp, highrise, campfire and backpack. Only backpack has a favicon. I am requesting that you use the SAME favicon you have for your public sites (www.campfirenow.com) to also be available for our sites XXX.campfirenow.com Doesn’t seem like a large request, and would make users be able to use tools such a firefox’s favicon addon to manage all those tabs we have open. Thanks! |

Topic: NEW FEATURE: Dates to remember This is recurring tasks though disguised under another label. Clearly if one wanted to call a person every 3 months, this option would be more suitable than setting up a task and changing the date to an explicit new date. It also reduces the clutter in the tasks lists. Of course your client relationship would be nothing if you only called them once a year. So once a quarter/month would be handy as well. |

Topic: E-mail list generation I agree. Although the export works okay, there are a lot of hoops to jump through to get an email list (even more if you need just a list, outside of a spreadsheet). It would be nice to have a way to do this with fewer steps, to make emailing small groups less time consuming. |

Topic: NEW FEATURE: Dates to remember This option is good…..Keeps my relationships intact…... One thing…When I add a URL to a contact….I think it woulsd be great if I could click on it and go to the website…..pretty simple I think! |

Topic: New Contacts via Email Maybe if we could email in a vcard as an attachment rather than import it. Its easier to program vcard files than updating information. If you like programming see my post in API http://forum.37signals.com/highrise/forums/15/topics/6078 Garry Robinson |

Topic: NEW FEATURE: Dates to remember
Just wanted to chime in and register my request for this as well. Not being able to customise the type dropdown on important dates is a real pain, and I don’t understand why this functionality wasn’t built in for consistency’s sake if for no other reason. It seems that most of the other dropdowns give you the option of changing the defaults. |

Topic: Never Eat Alone: Highrise's Companion Book? Hello there, I’m quite new to highrise but not with the Book ;-) ... just had some questions about the book > Highrise combination. Ray: Ehmmm I still don’t get cases actually… could give me an expample of how you would use this?? Making a list in highrise?... Melin: But how? I mean you use Plaxo with Highrise but are you using it to be up-to-date with a specific contact(connector)? ... so you always now what to talk about?? I think it would just be a great function to add RSS feeds to a client… And actually how are you using the TAGS? do you have like a tactic for it??? still dont think like I should do with Highrise… Thanks all!! |

Topic: NEW FEATURE: Dates to remember Why doesn’t this information export with the records? How do I get this information out (e.g. to create a birthday list)? This is an essential feature which seems to be missing. To me it’s a no-brainer. |

Topic: What happened to Plaxo sync? Is this still alive. I see a lot of talk about sync applications using the Highrise API for outlook, plaxo, etc in 2007. But I can’t seem to find if anything was ever completed. |

Topic: Never Eat Alone: Highrise's Companion Book? What an interesting way to get people interested in reading! Book trailers are like movie trailers, but for books! You can find them all over the internet now, but here is a site that’s featuring them on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/booktrailers |

Topic: Are you crazy! ADD A CALENDAR!!! We appreciate all the thoughts around this issue and we definitely keep customer feedback in mind when we’re deciding what to work on next. As always, we can’t promise that we’ll implement any particular features, but we do pay attention. Danno: For the record, Backpack’s calendar has supported repeating events for several months now. |

Topic: Are you crazy! ADD A CALENDAR!!! Well, I’m nobody to 37S, but after exhausting myself reading this particularly emotional post I would say feelings are strong on both sides. Can I sheepishly offer that the idea of a calendar would be helpful in the extreme for my efforts. You see, everyone in my non-profit organization will have to be able to see everyone’s meeting schedule, and it’s gotta be a tool that is simple for people who are, shall we say, less tech saavy than most of us. I have Backpack, but don’t really use the calendar b/c it doesn’t have repeatable scheduling (yet, anyway) – that’s most important for our usage. The other options like Google Calendar & iCal (or, even the HR Drop box) are great, but require wayyy too many tweaks for my non-techie users (not to mention that most of my people would string me up if I make them have to go to too many sites to get stuff done. ;-) So, hey, 37S did listen when customers asked for the ability to edit tags – the product has been around what, a few months and they are improving it all the time. Who knows but maybe they are almost ready to implement a calendar specfically for HR that does a little more than the Backpack Calendar , but as is their custom won’t announce it until it’s ready. They know it’s a hot (and heated) topic, so I think I will choose to trust them to add something that is simple to use but still meets the most critical needs. Oh, and BTW, I particularly liked this posting, especially that the guy gasps over his people turning back to that monstrosity Goldmine for thier CRM stuff … |

Topic: Are you crazy! ADD A CALENDAR!!! I have ACT! by Sage. And Outlook. And Intuit’s QB and Customer Manager. Sage, Outlook and QB cost less than Highrise. I ponied up, tried each of them out, spoke my mind to Act! Customer Service and Intuit and summarily dropped their products. With no regrets. I purchased in good faith and used each in good faith and am not unhappy with my decisions. Bob F, if you still want to bet, I’ll send you my PO Box so you can send me some cash ;) . I am willing to pay to have what I want. Which means, as far as I am concerned, when HR adds the calendar functionality and puts a price tag on it, I’ll take a look at that price and make a decision. If the fine folks here at 37S want my opinion on my price threshold before they allocate resources to new functionality, send everyone a survey – or post one. I’ll do my part as a customer and give them all the info they need to make a decision that is right for their business. They can decide for themselves whether I am a statistical outlier (as in 3, 4 or 5 sigmas from the mean) or whether my opinions actually fall under the bell curve. That is not my call to make as 37S is not my business. I will do that because they have a forum and because they have the appearance of being responsive (and because it is not in my nature to sit quiet and wait for someone to figure out what I want). The fact that there is a forum with posts from 37S implies an interest in what their (potential) customer base thinks. Does it make me me greedy to ask for more? Please, let me have customers who tell me what they want!! I love pleasing people for a profit. I must bow and concur to Cindy’s observation regarding access to creators, in that, I appreciate the ability to render an opinion and feel “heard.” However, it simply makes good sense to have a forum in this age of communication. I loved SpiritDancer’s post. I didn’t read it the way (apparently) most of you did (maybe I am a few sigmas from the mean?!). But I could not let that post stand alone, as if SpiritDancer was the only person out there in the ether who likes Highrise and needs a calendar, email and contact sync. It was, in fact, my duty to support this post, a pleading for a calendar, email integration and synching, in a different voice. PRaspen concurred. So did Bob Schloss. And so did Cindy. And, whether any of us wants to admit it or not, business any business lives or dies by the hand of customer satisfaction. If that were not so, there would be no such thing as a niche created by the dissatisfaction of a group of folks with a particular company’s products, there would be no new widgets and HR itself would have had no impetus for production (although Michael may disagree with me!). Customers everywhere vote with their wallets. Think about it, Bob F. I’ll wager you do the same! Cheers! Val |

Topic: Are you crazy! ADD A CALENDAR!!! I come at this from this perspective: 1) Freedom. I get to buy any product I want from 1,000s of providers. If I don’t like 37s, I don’t have to give them any money. If I buy something from them, I have agreed that I am trading money for what they are providing. They are not obligated to change the product. If I don’t like it, I’ll go somewhere else. Since they have opened the discussions on features and participate in those conversations, I’m free to request anything I want. 2) Civility. There are varying degrees of opinions about what kind of access someone generally has to developers and owners but I have been in software for the last 14 years and, with very few exceptions, I have not had a chance for open dialog with anyone who makes the major software tools that I use. I’m not saying that it doesn’t happen (nod to Michael) but it’s not common in my experience. So, I get annoyed when people sound, to my ears, rude and/or demanding because I think of it as a courtesy that that 37s engages in a lot of dialog with customers and it’s my opinion (and only my opinion) that it should be reciprocated. 3) Pet Peeve. I have a pet peeve about whining. There is a small amount of what gets expressed up here (and I don’t think that about this thread) that borders on fist pounding “Take care of me!” like 37s has some obligation to solve the problems people are having managing their business and their information flow. They don’t. They make stuff they think is cool and helpful. If it works for you, great, if it doesn’t, ask for something more like an adult or buy something else – or use HR but keep your binky near. With that said, yes, I would love a way to get HR to work seamlessly with Google Calendar. It would solve a lot of problems for me. I understand the frustration. The business that I run off of HR is 100% event driven and I do think it’s crazy. And I think that some of the overlap between the products is silly but that’s what happens when you develop things at different times for different audiences. At some point hopefully they will improve that. I also have my own laundry list of things that I think are stupid and even weird in HR. So, I will continue to beg, plead, cajole, discuss and put my “+1” in, but I won’t be rude to people that are actually creative and want to listen and give a crap about what they create because I think that’s a good thing and isn’t as common as it should be. |

Topic: Are you crazy! ADD A CALENDAR!!! I’m a software developer of nearly 30 years and spend thousands a year on software, tools and related services. To suggest I’m greedy or don’t know what 37 Signals feel like, as if feelings matter here, is completely absurd. This isn’t about feelings, this is about cost / benefit ratios, fit for purpose software and developer responsiveness; nothing more, nothing less. Equating client requests for missing core functionality to feature creep is akin to being admonished for expecting an automobile to come with four tires. While I’ll acknowledge I come c/w an attitude I’ve never yelled at 37 Signals, and the majority of suggestions and observations I’ve anted up have been to their benefit if they choose to liberate themselves from their egos. As for acting smug, you’re entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong it may be and deserve no more response than that. |

Topic: Are you crazy! ADD A CALENDAR!!! I know I’m going to regret stepping in here, but I must – having been on 37’s side of the fence, I know what this sounds like to them and it ain’t fun. So, Spiritdancer, Michael and Valerie – you like(d) the interface and functionality that Highrise showed and you signed up to use it. AND, I dare say, you liked the price. But, you got greedy. You wanted more functions and features – but I bet you aren’t willing to pay the price to have those. I say that because there ARE other products on the market that do what you want – today! For one, your list of wants is covered totally by ACT! from Sage – has been for several versions. Of course, you pay a higher cost, don’t get updates for free and the folks at Sage don’t run a forum where they actually talk to you it if you have questions, concerns or requests. Now, would I like it if Highrise had a more robust way of dealing with dates and events – sure. But, it works better for my company than what we were using before. Would integrated email be interesting – for my company, not really. That’s why we didn’t use the integrated email that our previous product offered, even though it was as robust as Outlook – my bosses preferred email application. The issue of syncing to a PDA or smart phone came up and I explained that there were a couple of different options, but nothing “great” yet. They thought that would be a concern – until I pointed out that our previous (then current) application had sync and no one used it. Funny, they haven’t even mentioned it since we started using Highrise—so that’s not really a big showstopper for us either. There were some issues that did irk me at first—mostly because Highrise is so email centric and my company still does a lot with hard copy mailing. But, Richard Haven’s Highrise Inquirer has dealt with those issues (thanks, Richard!). So, if you like what Highrise does—great. If you want it to do more, terrific – make suggestions. But, don’t yell at 37 if they don’t instantly (or even slowly) add THAT feature or act smug because you are wiser than most and have decided that not paying for a product that you clearly like will increase the likelihood they will make the product into something you WILL pay for. If the product doesn’t suit you needs, may I suggest that there are other products out there that will. That’s why I finally got my company to ditch ACT! and use Highrise. |
