Topic: System Announcements / Basecamp interruption of service Hello 37S, Things are running smoothly at the moment and no data was lost, but 37S owes it to their customers to explain what corrections have been put into place if something like this were to happen again. Does 37S employ a formal disaster recovery process? Notification of the service interruption needs to be pushed to account owners and admins when these things occur. Do the folks at 37S disagree? -Jeff |

Topic: Feature Requests / Defining admin rights Same issue here. We want to grand admin rights to an employee, but don’t want the employee to be privy to every account. Currently, there is no workaround. We are considering opening another BC account solely for ‘private’ consumption by upper management while keeping our regular project workstream as it is in our main BC account. This BC limitation has me exploring project management tools offered by other vendors. Bottom line: there needs to be more ‘granularity’ in the permissions scheme. |

Topic: System Announcements / Basecamp interruption of service Stuff happens, and it was unfortunate that this occurred at such a busy time. Whatever the truth, it all leads to questions on the reliability of Rackspace and 37signals’ oversight of their vendor. In any regulated industry, like ours, a formal investigation is expected: what happened, what was affected, and, most importantly, what corrective actions have been taken on both Rackspace and 37signals’ part. I’d like to see this published – publicly and soon. Also, for future information, where should Basecamp users go to get system status information? Other users in my company came to me for that information but it would be nice to have it available more readily and obviously. An email to the account owner (maybe administrators, too) at the onset of these service interruptions would be immensely helpful. |

Topic: Feature Requests / Site-Wide Banner Is this feature still under consideration? I’ve had many opportunities where it would have been extremely useful. Thanks. |

Topic: Feature Requests / basic calendar - separate from milestone While I understand that Basecamp can’t (and probably never will) do everything, it certainly seems that adding a calendar feature would be the next logical evolutionary feature. Honestly, the absence of a calendar is the one thing that could ultimately cause us to consider leaving Basecamp. That’s not our plan, but the lack of a calendar that can be shared and edited by authorized users is a glaring deficiency. |

Topic: System Announcements / UPDATE: Clearer admin settings I’m not sure that my earlier post was correctly understood. As the account owner, I am able to assign admin privileges and have done so to two other individuals in my company. Those new admins now have the ability to assign additional admins. I don’t see how this can be considered a good thing. My comment about sensitive information has nothing to do with billing. It has to do with project content. For example, we have a few projects that are for management eyes only (we discuss company finances, human resource matters, etc.). An ‘errant click of the mouse’, and by that I mean a true mistake, could expose that information to unintended individuals. Again, this is a clear risk (and one that I could easily see happen) that needs to be mitigated. As mentioned by another poster, all of this could be fixed by having the account owner, and only the account owner, have the ability to grant admin access. |

Topic: System Announcements / UPDATE: Clearer admin settings I have to express my concern with this new Basecamp feature. With the new way to assign admins, all it takes is an errant click of the mouse by an unsuspecting admin to reveal what could be sensitive company information. Me and the other admins in my company feel that the ability to grant admin access should be more restrictive. Not only did we like it when it was ‘hidden behind the Settings tab on the Dashboard’, we would go one step farther and say that the account owner should be the only person who can grant admin privileges to the account. Granting any admin the privilege to further assign admin rights does not represent good systems management by most definitions. Please consider a more restrictive path to the matter of administrator privileges in Basecamp. The new way is a step backwards in our view. |

Topic: Feature Requests / Gantt Charts, Ticketing and other PM Tools I asked about Gantt charts before enrolling in BC. The responses I received made it pretty clear that 37S does not subscribe to the use of Gantt charts for project management. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for them. |

Topic: Miscellaneous / Not getting email notifications for own posts II have never felt the need to be emailed a notification after posting a message I’ve just written. It would only produce clutter in my mailbox. But I do see the reason why someone might want to perform a search. I’d rather see BC with better search capability, just not through mail indexing. |

Topic: Feature Requests / Site-Wide Banner Ever notice when BC needs to do maintenance that they post a banner across the top of the Dashboard page? I’d like to have the ability to create that banner for company-wide announcements (reminders, events of the day, office closings, etc.). |

Topic: Feature Requests / Need Ability to Backup Entire Basecamp Site With my company’s increasing use of BC, there is a growing interest in backing up the entire site—including any files. In some ways, not having the ability to do whole BC backup is holding us back a bit. Is there a way to do this or do I need to settle for this being a feature request? We do tell our staff that BC is for file transfer, and not file storage. While we do not use BC for archival purposes, files do need to live on the project site, sometimes for 6 months. |
