Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Outage?

Basecamp is not coming up for me, either (through openid or direct URL access). 500 server error is what I’m getting.

I noticed it, too. No big deal, really, for me. One might say that they simply put them in alphabetical order.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / myOpenID is down...

From the openid version of your login screen click the “can’t login” link and enter your openid URL. Basecamp will email your openid/password combination to your registered email address. This is different than your old normal, pre-openid, user ID and password.

I freaked out this morning, too, when I couldn’t log into Basecamp, Highrise, and Backpack using openid.

Topic: How are you using Basecamp? / How do you organize your projects?

My project organization is very similar, as well: xxx000 – xxxxxx (STA002 – St Anne Church Website Redesign). As for how the number gets assigned, it’s just an incremented number for each individual client. I do, however, like the idea of adding the year to the prefix. Anyway, as for general/specific organization, I try to keep development/design projects separate from hosting projects, and again keep maintenance projects separate from others. So for my STA client, I currently have STA001, which is for hosting activities (domain renewals, configuring server settings, etc, billing for hosting,), the STA002 which is the project tracking all active development work and invoicing, and then I will eventually have a STA003 for maintenance activities once launched.

The only thing I am running into that is confusing for me sometimes is the three number designation isn’t always the same for each client, especially if they’ve been a client for a while. (e.g. STA001 is hosting, but another client’s project for hosting activities is ASH002). That said, it hasn’t been that big of a deal for me to completely rethink it all.

[edit] Forgot to add, I archive projects as soon as the final invoice has been paid. For hosting-related projects I will either keep active or put on hold until the next renewal.

Topic: System Announcements / NEW FEATURE: Interface design refresh

I’m happy to see the look and feel of Basecamp be brought closer to the look of Highrise, but I have the same concerns as most regarding the project overview page – while I can understand the desire to quickly scan the page to see what’s been going on (once you realize how things are now colored coded, that is), it is rather ugly. Especially coming from 37signals, who I look to for interface design inspiration.

One question I have is if the design of the individual project overview changed to allow for color coding and quick scanning, why did the Dashboard page stay the same (i.e. tags, etc)? Seems a little inconsistent.

Topic: Miscellaneous / Project Management - web

“Getting Real”, for starters. But I also have found “Web Redesign” to be very helpful in trying to nail down my own web design process. More info here: http://www.web-redesign.com/

Good luck!

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Upcoming Milestones display in project overview page?

Is it just me or did the displaying of upcoming milestones in the project overview and dashboard pages change? Wasn’t it a small calendar-like display, and now it’s a listing?
