Topic: Miscellaneous / Exchange Server out of office Today, we had a crazy situation where one email domain (four users) sent an auto-reply saying “My new e-mail address is [this], this message will be forwarded there” – this auto-reply was not blocked by Basecamp and continued to post about 90 times to this particular project. Needless to say, all 95 or so client users were peeved at all the messages dumping into their inbox. I must say, I thought auto-replies were blocked by Basecamp – NOT because I ever heard an answer to my and “promos” post above, but rather evidenced by never seeing any actual auto-replies show up in Basecamp. Until today. Am still waiting on my Basecamp support request to figure out where we went wrong. |

Topic: Miscellaneous / Exchange Server out of office I am wondering the very same thing. I’m guessing not, but some confirmation would be reassuring. Mary |

Topic: System Announcements / Basecamp outage and slowness To follow up on my comment from above: Our missing page of activity had nothing at all to do with the service problems of this morning. The BC support folks reminded me to make sure that the client didn’t delete the post herself—so I did, and she had! Of our 600+ users, I’d never experienced getting an e-mail notification and then finding that the page had disappeared almost immediately after. Thanks to the BC support staff for reminding me to check the most obvious solution first. Doh! |

Topic: System Announcements / Basecamp outage and slowness We’ve got at least one page of activity that is missing – gone, nowhere to be found. I’ve got the time-stamped e-mail notification with the copy of the text from our client, but the actual message page in Basecamp can’t be found. I keep refreshing every 15 minutes or so and am hoping it will appear soon—that it’s just part of this system hiccup/lag. I’ve also submitted a support request and look forward to hearing from BC tech support staff about this. Thank you! |

Topic: Feature Requests / Categorize or organize writeboards We, too, have a lot of writeboards. It’s a great tool, but they start piling up. We periodically look for ones that can be archived (“Exported” and saved as *txt or *html) or just plain deleted. But it would be nice if there were some kind of folder structure – or at least an archive feature – that would let us move them around or re-order them. As it is, we’re forced to “manage” them more closely than we’d like. At the very least, you’ve got to use GOOD, MEANINGFUL writeboard titles so that as the list grows, it’s easy to tell which one is which :) |

Topic: Tips & Tricks / How to delete a writeboard? Hi Regina, To delete a writeboard: Click on the writeboards tab (i.e., the main page that lists all your writeboard titles). Then look to the right of each writeboard title. See the tiny little trash can icon? That’s what you use to delete. If you want to save the content but get rid of the writeboard itself, you can open up the writeboard and use the “Export” button to save it as a *.txt or *.htm file. Hope that helps! |

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Emails getting picked up by spam Hello, again. I’ve just gotten resolution from my client org who was having this problem. She said: “Yes, our IT was able to resolve the issue. He said the originating address switched to 37 Signals. Thanks!” Hope that helps. |

Topic: Feature Requests / "Send welcome mail" link/message Hello, I serve as the Basecamp admin for about 350 users, many of whom are technophobes and only occasional users. I routinely get asked to re-send user names and passwords. So I go into the person’s profile and use the “Send welcome mail” link to do this straight from the Basecamp system. What people receive is this: “[My Company Name] has created an account for you. Your account info is: User name: jdoe To login, visit: https://etr-associates.grouphub.com“ Nowhere in this message (including the subject line) is there any reference to “Basecamp.” This can be disorienting to non-technical users who are suspicious of spam or otherwise fraudulent activity. The word “account” can be off-putting to some, because money is generally associated with that word, so I’m always interested in putting people at ease about this right from the get-go. I do add my own personal message to make things clear when I first sign people up, but there is no place to personalize or add more info when using the “Send welcome message” link to re-send user/pass information. Could you guys make two small edits to the “Send welcome mail” auto-message: 1) Put the word “Basecamp” in the subject line, like so: “Your Basecamp account has been created!” That would be great. |

Topic: Feature Requests / Completed milestones display Hi there – I started this thread back in April and just logged in to make the request again. I’m still wishing I could view the most recent completed milestone at the TOP of the Completed Milestones list. When I teach our clients how to use this feature, no one can understand why we have to view the oldest ones first. As with someone else who commented on this topic, we use this project for ongoing operations, so I’m now scrolling down the equivalent of 4-5 pages of completed milestones before I can see the one I care about. Imagine how it will be next year! Please lend us a hand here, guys. |

Topic: System Announcements / Some adjustments to the Overview screen Okay, jeffpatt just made me laugh out loud with his “Ow. My Eyes” post. And hey, I like the alignment. I’m also a fan of creativity and innovation. But with all due respect to the awesome 37Signals guys – those boxes are definitely not an improvement. The hard corners are not in harmony with the feel of all other windows and icons in Basecamp. The colors are a bit much indeed. Graphically, it is a step backward. Is it the end of the world? No. But why put acne on that smooth ivory Basecamp complexion? I also take issue with putting the word “about” after all “posted a comment” color-boxes, when all comments have the “Re:” at the front of the message subject line. It is redundant to say “posted a comment “about Re:” this and that. It muddies the screen for no added value. Lastly, I too am wondering what happened to the formatting tips in the right column of the message window? I administer more than 35 projects for 250 users, and I do like to point folks to the formatting tips. Any chance you guys might put those back? |

Topic: Feature Requests / Completed milestones display I’d love it if the Completed Milestones list displayed in reverse chronological order… most recent at the top, oldest at the bottom. Or at least give users the option to have them display either way. |
