Topic: Thumbnails in files

Not only does Backpackit offer this, but Highrise does too. It surprises me that this isn’t already a part of Basecamp (which we’re all very excited about).

I agree with Lance about the desire for a separate, gallery-style tab as well.

EDIT: just found mention of the Thumbnails in Message/Comments section (over here). I’d still love to see a separate image tab with thumbnails.

Yes! I was unpleasantly surprised to notice after upgrading that even though Backpackit has this feature, Basecamp doesn’t. Makes searching through screenshots a real pain… Please please add this!

Dying for this feature ourselves. At the risk of coming across as pushy, would it make sense to have any images posted to a project in Files default to a separate tab with more of a gallery feel? Seems like that might be easier than trying to enable thumbnails within the current Files interface.

Hi Guys,

Was wondering if it would be possible to create thumbnails in the “files” section. I know that you guys have it as a feature when you “attach files to this message.”

As a designer dealing with images primarily, this would be AWESOME. (Particulary when clients upload multiple massive photos that I have to sort through!)

Many Thanks for a great product Sacha

Topic: better milestone view

Adrian,

I agree. We have the same set of milestones in each project and now have 40+ live projects. The milestone calender just shows identical milestones and we have to mouse over to see which project they are for.

One thing for me would be adding the name of the project at the end of the milstone in the dashboard. That way when looking at the dashboard, you also see the project thats associated with the milestone. To get around this, we need to put a “-(project name)” when making milestones. Would be good if this was done automatically. Thanks

I’m managing a team developing some products with somewhat hairy timelines. I know you’re trying to keep it simple but having just a little more functionality in the milestones area would be REALLY helpful, one feature in particular…

I’m not trying to turn this into a nitty-gritty planning calendar, but being able to place spans of days on there would be very helpful, instead of single day milestones. I have developers off at conferences, off-site training, vacation, etc. and being able to put those spans on there would help visualize the workable time better.

Thanks llh

I’ve been thinking about milestones too …

how about each milestone getting its own page – summarising all related messages and to do lists (with the ability to add messages and to do items from the milestone page itself)?

the idea being that a milestone is often a mini-project all of itself (can’t start on phase 3 till phase 2 is done and dusted) – so a single at a glance view would be useful.

Baz.

Thanks, thos. It’s a lot easier for us to keep up to date with the latest threads using this forum with feeds and Recent posts.

Thanks for the quick fix. Looks like David’s “we’re up again” post came in while I was typing mine.

Totally understand and agree brief outages may not merit a full thread. Just want a communication framework for checking on known issues, so we don’t end up adding a flood of duplicate problem reports to whatever fire you’re dealing with.

Good suggestion, Chris. We’ll keep that in mind for outages that last more than a couple minutes. They are very rare, but when they do happen we’ll be sure to post so people know about them.

We apologize for this last one. Turned out to be a network issue at the data center.

Understand you guys are on the case and don’t want to take anyone away from that, but in the future would it be possible to get a post in the “System Announcements” forum for downtimes like these?

That’s where I went to see whether this was a known outage.

We’re back again. The network outage lasted 8 minutes. We’re investigating this with our hosting partner and will get to the bottom of why this happened.

Rackspace is currently experiencing some network problems. We’re on the phone with them loudly. We’ll have it resolved as soon as possible. We’re very sorry for this :(

We seem to be getting a lot (5+ reports from different users, including myself) of “page not found” or RAILS application errors today??

That is cool Jason. A small detail to consider when you’re redesigning it:

It would be sweet if when you click on a milestone from the dashboard or other overview it would anchor to that milestone. Currently when you click on a milestone it just takes you to the milestone page for that project. Which is great unless you have many milestones. I find myself searching the page for the name I just looked at several times a day.

It is really only a problem because we are (mis) using a basecamp project for simple Trouble Ticketing and end up with several milestones. It is great because all of our IT work is in one place with our other projects. I can imagine others run into a similar problem.

We’re going to be completely rethinking the Milestones section later this year. Stay tuned.

it would be great to be able to select a group of projects and display their associated milestones – colour coded in some way to differentiate – i currently do this by exporting the icalendar details into a third party calender application but this is timeconsuming

I also use the company function to differentiate between my teams individual projects which works well and if a view a company level could be delivered that would help

also extending the timescale to last milestone date would be useful
