Topic: System Announcements / NEW FEATURE: "List view" for messages
Basecamp isn’t reliably good; it’s reliably great. It sounds like you want perfect. Perfect doesn’t exist. Everything has flaws and sacrifices and tradeoffs: Especially things that are used by thousands of people with different sets of needs, expectations, and values. What you want may not be what someone else wants. That’s part of being part of a community. Using software is being part of a community. To quote Mick Jagger: “You can’t always get what you want / And if you try sometime you find / You get what you need.” |

Topic: Miscellaneous / html in WriteBoards All standard HTML works in a Writeboard. If you get the HTML wrong it’s not going to show up correctly in a Writeboard, but 37signals doesn’t block HTML in Writeboards. They may block Javascript for security purposes, but HTML works. |

Topic: Miscellaneous / How to read XML and use the data effectively? Why not just use Firefox? Firefox’s XML parser is really good. |

Topic: Miscellaneous / Greasemonkey Maven? I suspect 37signals will continue to tweak that page so your greasemonkey solution will likely break over and over as 37s makes changes. You may want to wait a few weeks for the dust to settle. Just something to keep in mind. |

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Uploading private files They can if you’ve given them permission to do so. Go into the project, click the People link, edit the client company in question. You’ll see a checkbox that allows you give that client company access to private items. Any admin in your account can change this setting. |

Topic: System Announcements / Some adjustments to the Overview screen Man you’d think a natural disaster hit your town! Hideous! Horrible! Terrible! Can’t look! Eyes burning! Never again! It’s a single screen on a web-app people. The overview page isn’t even where work gets done. You post messages (the messages section is much improved), you add to-dos (faster and slicker than before), you upload files (new date groupings are nicer), you schedule milestones (new milestone screen is cleaner). The overall UI is cleaner, tighter. The font sizes are more readable. There’s less light grey tiny type all over the place. In my opinion it’s one hell of a great improvement. There’s so much to like with this redesign. I think it’s a shame people can only find time to complain. I guess that’s the nature of people (especially forum-posting people). No wonder the news is full of doom and gloom. |
