I suppose I am hoping that 37 Signals would come up with a killer app that can bridge the worlds. I mean Highrise and Basecamp would work so well together as a single application.

Personally for me it ticks all the boxes, bar one. And that is Basecamp integration. Now I know this isn’t a specific feature request for Basecamp, more of a major desire to have an application that combines all my business workflow. There are certainly elements in Daylite that are similar to Highrise, and Basecamp. But it just doesn’t feel right, and I am fairly loyal to 37 Signals.

I suppose what I am asking for is more integration with Basecamp, Highrise, iCal, Mail.

Now I use Basecamp to manage my projects, my business etc…. I love the way it integrates with iCal so I can see what deadlines I have coming up.

I use Things from Cultured Code for things that I need to do domestically and also if there is something that pops into my head during the day I can activate the quick todo box and add in a todo item. This todo item will show up in iCal and Mail. Now its handy for both because I often look at iCal in the morning to see what my day looks like and if I have any pressing tasks. Its handy in Mail because I’m always in Mail and that way I can have a constant reminder that I have tasks that need doing.

For me, having Basecamp todo’s show up in both Mail and Things would complete the circle in terms of what I need to do through the day both domestically and business wise. I understand 37 Signals policy on feature enhancements, so I expect this to not get much mileage, but its just seed, I think it would help the workflow if everything task related was integrated fully.

Well Chris, I find that if you can strap them down and inject them with a serum, that kind of works. But its the old saying: “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.”

I have had trouble recently with a potential client. He contacted me via Sitepoint Marketplace, and said he had a mountain of work for me. That was three months ago and I have had nothing from him apart from the “It’s coming” routine. He said he was so busy and had trouble organising stuff, so I recommended Basecamp, he signed up but never lasted the trial and he said it was doing his head in. Basically its not Microsoft, its not a Windows application so its no good.

For me it turned my business around because I could organise everything I needed to. So now if I have a potential client who is not interested in using a great tool like Basecamp then I tend not to work with them, as chances are they are not on the same wavelength as me.

How about for posting messages? Its not meant to be complicated.

I agree there are some overlap, but messages are vital for sending messages. I use Writeboards for putting up briefs.

Anyone have any clue about any new projects coming out of 37Signals? What I would like to see is something where you can have meetings with people online and share screens, like Acrobat Connect, or Breeze.

Or do we have all the tools we need to run our projects?

Strange that it doesn’t work for Safari 2, and only works for a browser that is still in Beta and obviously Firefox.

Also how does an application expect to succeed when it instantly alienates unfortunately a massive IE audience.

This reminds me of the “Best Viewed In Netscape” crap we used to be subjected to.

Hi,

Been working with a new client on his Basecamp and he was asking me if I knew of a way to create a master todo list and able to prioritise.

Well I said the general todo list at the root of your Basecamp is the master list, but I don’t know how you prioritise.

Now I notice in Highrise we are able to add due dates for tasks. This would be excellent in Basecamp.

I also know that in messages we are able to flag items by hotlinking to images to signify priority etc. Is there anyway this can be applied in todo lists?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experimented with custom buttons? Are we allowed to do so?

Reason being is, I want to integrate the buttons into my design as seamless as possible and I don’t think the pre-made one’s do that.

I have found myself with 2 different companies in one project. My client and a developer. I would like to be able to create todo lists that are only visible to my developer, likewise messages and notes that I wish to be private to my client.

Is this likely to be an option in the future?

Well I tried to switch back to normal login and when I saved, it didn’t seem that anything had taken effect. I also then had the option to delete user, which I did, but the Basecamp still appears in my OpenBar and I am unable to login now, using either OpenId or normal login.
