Topic: Feature Requests / WYSIWYG formatting

That conversation was from a year ago, and to date no progress has been made.

37S has said that a wysiwyg editor is on the very bottom of their requests list, so they have no intention of spending any time to develop this. Apparently, we are of the 5% minority who actually want this feature and it’s still a year later.

For our purposes, the Writeboard is entirely useless, as our clients cannot use it effectively if they are required to write markup to format their text.

Topic: Feature Requests / Why Don't Messages w/ New Activity Move to the Top?

Have to agree with David_H. Messages are used like messageboards and emails. Newest should be First.

Wouldn’t it be easy enough to put a little option at the top to toggle the messages to display Newest First?

Topic: Feature Requests / Due dates for To-Dos

Doesn’t assigning a to-do to a milestone accomplish this?

Topic: How are you using Basecamp? / Anyone use BC for Web Design Projects?

We are also a web design firm, and we’ve been using Basecamp for only a few months. We have recently introduced it to some selected clients, and we are also facing the very same problems that the original poster mentioned. Namely:

  • Clients aren’t sure where best to go to see the latest changes. They go to FILES and while it’s easy for us to understand, they get confused on what is the latest, esp. when there are multiple mockups of multiple screens. Perhaps if we can create “folders” or something that might help.
  • Clients – even when trained – don’t fully GET how to use the Messages. The “ADD A NEW MESSAGE” button on the right is so prevalent that that is what they end up doing to reply to a previous message, instead of going into the message in question and posting a “comment”. So we are running into these giant threads of messages, some are comments burried in these threads, and it ultimately makes no sense.
  • The WRITEBOARD is a great concept, but the execution is not Client-friendly. Our clients are not having a good time using the “textile” markup. If there was some kind of a toolbar or WYSIWYG interface that would be ideal. Everyone is used to Word!

It was hard enough to get them to use a system like Basecamp to manage the day to day affairs and to-do’s, don’t ask them to learn something new! I know, it’s crazy! But Clients are lazy. For our part, our company, who are all web-savvy, absolutely love Basecamp.

We just wish BC’s approach was more client-friendly.

Topic: How are you using Basecamp? / What can you accomplish on BC? Check this out.

I hope so, because I might have mistaken that for just… link-spam… ? :)

Topic: Tips & Tricks / Office Integration? / Web meetings opportunities?

The Basecamp Milestones easily integrate into your Outlook calendars automatically (via the iCalendar button). We’re all on Office 2007 and the integration with Basecamp Milestones is ideal. The integration is only from BC-> Outlook. Not sure about web meetings.

Topic: Feature Requests / Showing completed to-do lists

Wholly agree. Please keep Completed to-do’s in the Centre screen, and not relegate them to the side unless we opt to do so. It’s much easier to see at a glance not only that the List is completed, but which items were completed by whom. Small request but extremely useful.

Topic: Feature Requests / Seeing Real Calendars when adding 10 Milestones

Adding 10 Milestones at a time is great, but can be difficult if we don’t have a visual calendar. Right now, we just get drop-down lists for dates.

The problem is when you don’t exactly KNOW what dates need to be done when, and you just want things to be done on a certain day or week, it’s much easier to see it on a calendar than guess at it in the drop-down.

We usually have to open up the Windows calendar alongside to plan this, and it would be nice if it was all in one place.

Keep the drop down, but put a calendar icon that we can click on to select a date.

Better yet, find a way to put 10 calendars all visible at once and not make it look ridiculous. :)

Topic: Feature Requests / User friendly Text/WYSIWYG Editor

Please, please, please, implement an easy way for Clients (we’re talking regular not-always-so-savvy CLIENTS) to format text on the Writeboard and other places. The “textile” markup is not cutting it.

For example, if we are drafting a legal document with a client and we want to designate an asterisk* to coincide with a footnote, all of a sudden, all the text after the asterisk becomes bold. Not the desired outcome. And it is too much to ask to make the silly CLIENT jump through hoops to do simple text formatting.

Please please please find a better way than the current markup!
