Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / File uploads corrupt

I’ve been experiencing the same thing. I noticed that it’s only when clients send an email reply and include an attachment. Trying a different browser didn’t work for me.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Corrupt Attachments - Email Client Reply

I actually just experienced this issue. I realized today that our client had attached the doc via email rather than through the web interface. The file is a word doc, sent via Outlook. I tried opening with Apple Pages and MS Word 2007 (on XP) and couldn’t. The file name included spaces – not sure if that makes a difference.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Emailed Comment replies losing format in Basecamp

It’s especially annoying when an email signature gets thrown in there (what is people’s obsession with email signatures anyway? Especially on replies..)

Topic: Feature Requests / Turn off Reply to a message via email

I have to agree with the above comments. I was initially excited about the email feature – and in some ways I still like it – but the formatting is poor and like the previous posters have noted, it creates a lot of visual clutter. Like kgarcia, what I loved about Basecamp when I initially signed up was the central location for sharing info without cluttering email inboxes (mine in particular). Unfortunately turning off all email notification isn’t really a viable option for us. Instead I’d like to also see an option to turn off the reply via email feature.

Topic: How are you using Basecamp? / Anyone use BC for Web Design Projects?

I have the same experience as fdizzle. The “new account” email that gets sent out might (sometimes doesn’t) include some info about how to use BC. Also, the day of, or right before, project kickoff, I post a message to everyone involved in the project and I include one short paragraph aimed at the client explaining (in general terms) how to use the system and why it’s better than email. I’ve only had one client in my 1+ year of using Basecamp who has had an issue with it and that’s because she doesn’t know much more than Outlook and Word. In my opinion, it boils down to client education.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Textile help and ...

Hate to bring up a somewhat old topic but I’d really like to see the formatting help/guide back in Basecamp too. I’ve been a Basecamp customer for about a year and really love the app. But the formatting guide is the one thing I miss and know that (my) clients can benefit from. For now I can live with my current workaround (which is to add the styling guide to the Page Announcement) but it was really nice to have that right next to the message list.

From what I’ve read on the forum regarding this matter, I think that making it a preference/option would be a nice solution given that not everyone agrees having formatting is good. I know keeping things simple is at the core here but I really feel that this would be beneficial to clients (more so than account owners even).
