Topic: Feature Requests / iPhone compatibility?

Hi there – You might want to check out Outpost. It’s an offshoot of Treetop which is a Basecamp extra that is currently in beta. Outpost is still pretty much read-only, although you can complete or uncomplete todos, which is pretty handy. Outpost talks directly to Basecamp via the Basecamp API, so, unlike Treetop, none of your information is stored on the Treetop server. Hope you like it! Thanks – j

Topic: Feature Requests / Show Person Assigning To Do

Question for you guys: Could you use a Message to make an assignment/request and have the assignee make their own To-Do? The assignee could then comment on the message if they have questions about the task. When they complete their To-Do, they can add a comment to the original message so you will be kept abreast of the status.

Topic: Feature Requests / Move items between projects

Neil is right – this is a tricky request. My guess is that this is why 37s has not implemented – not because they couldn’t do it, but because there’s no obvious “expected behavior”.

For example, if you are tracking time against a todo, and then move the todo to a list on another project, does the time follow the todo or stay on the original project? I can imagine business cases where it makes sense to leave the time on the old project (say, it’s already been billed) or pull the time to the new project.

Furthermore, if you do want to move the todo and leave the time attached to the original project, what do you link the orphaned time to? Make a dupe todo on the new project? Maybe. Treat the original todo as “deleted” and leave the time attached to the deleted todo? Maybe. The point is, there’s a lot going on. In Treetop, we are planning to support this with a simple wizard that asks the user what they want to do given the situation. So, if you want this feature, please chime if here, or sign up as a Treetop beta tester to get your voice heard.

Topic: Troubleshooting and Bug Reports / Replying from BlackBerry device

Hi Susan – You might be interested in Treetop. It’s a Basecamp extra that supports adding comments to Basecamp messages via email. It would solve your issue because your comment is pulled from the subject of the message, not the body. Treetop is in private beta right now, but you can request an account at the site. HTH – j

Topic: Feature Requests / to-dos: multiple responsible persons

Hi santoniu – I am curious about your request… why would you want to assign a task to multiple people? It seems to me that doing so would therefore leave no one in particular responsible for completing the task. Wouldn’t that cause a problem? TIA – j

Topic: Feature Requests / To-Do Templates and who's assigned

Hi all – Bulk assignment of to-dos is one of many upcoming features in Treetop. Treetop is a Basecamp extra that uses the Basecamp API to give you a new view of your data. Treetop is currently in beta, but there is a screencast of the current to-do spreadsheet view in action. You can also sign up to become a beta tester if you are interested. Cheers! j

Topic: Feature Requests / Notes for tasks

I know it stinks, but here’s a work around for you. You can add long text to a to-do and prevent it from showing up in browse mode by preceding it with a bogus tag and some simple CSS. Assume that the to-do is for mowing the lawn:

Mow the lawn

<comments style=”display:none”>

Put gas can in car
Drive to gas station
Fill can with gas
Pay for gas
Drive home
Sit on couch
Watch football

I should mention that Treetop is built on top of the Basecamp API and is not a replacement for Basecamp. You must have a Basecamp account to use Treetop. Just wanted to make sure that was clear.

Topic: Feature Requests / Beta testers needed for Basecamp Extra

Hi everybody -

I apologize in advance if this seems too spam-y but according to the ground rules of the forum, I think it’s okay. We are looking for a few more testers for the Treetop private beta program and figured this would be a good place to look ;)

Treetop is a Basecamp extra that adds some of the most requested Basecamp features—posting comments to messages via email, downloading your data as csv, spreadsheet views with flexible sorting and filtering, implicit backup of your Basecamp data, etc. We are not yet feature complete, but will be soon. If you are desperate for these features or others, now is the best time to have your voice heard.

Please note that Treetop is built on top of Basecamp and is not a replacement for Basecamp. You must have a Basecamp account to use Treetop.

Thanks for your time,
j

Topic: Basecamp API / How do I disable API

I also wanted to deactivate the API for my account. I contacted Basecamp about it and was told that they have to do it manually, so you need to contact them directly.
