Is it possible to support OpenID for API and RSS transactions? I’ve had several people ask me whether Avalanche supports OpenID, and I’ve had to tell them all that it doesn’t because Basecamp’s API doesn’t.

Assuming this was a design decision and not a “we’ll get to it eventually” feature, what were the reasons for not supporting OpenID for the API?

When you’re using OpenID, you have to go to your My Info screen and click the link to reveal a standard username and password for use with the API and RSS.

OpenID itself isn’t (unfortunately) designed to work with APIs (yet).
