Little Printer

Has anyone noticed that little printer icon next to the Search tab before? It appears everywhere except at the Dashboard level. |

just came here to see if anyone else noticed it. intriguing. |

We’ll be adding the printer icon in more places once we spruce up the printer style sheets in those places. |

Jason, One place we really need that is in the Milestone views, both individuals and the entire team. It would look best to me if it wasn’t a calendar, but was instead more like the Milestones view looks in an indivual project. I go into meetings where I don’t have a computer and it would be great to be able to take a list of every project and milestone we’re working on so I can make notes and give answers about our workload. |

What is the rationale behind the choice of a print icon? Is it so difficult to find the print menu option or keyboard shortcut? Or is it to indicate a place where you have implemented a print stylesheet. I find it uncomfortably odd. Maybe it’s because we almost never print. |

Is it so difficult to find the print menu option or keyboard shortcut? We’ve been surprised by the number of people who’ve emailed us asking if you could print Basecamp screens. Even though you can select Print from the File menu in any browser, so many people have been conditioned to look for a Printer button/icon/link. If they don’t see one they don’t think you can print. So this is very closely based on a lot of customer requests. |

So this is very closely based on a lot of customer requests. Okay but it’s questionable design that has nothing to do with the core design of your products. I still think that users need to be educated instead of enticed to remain lazy. Someone who doesn’t even try to print in Basecamp probably doesn’t print anything in his browser. I would try to work on improving the first-login experience of new users instead of doubling a feature that already exists in every browser. It shouldn’t be a big deal to make people understand that you can.. print. Almost all of my customers have had a pretty poor first-login experience. To me that icon is design laziness to satisfy user laziness. |

Thank you. Its good to see a little printer icon. Aldo I am a techy, most of users who use basecamp, on the organization I work for, are not and for them “File Print” does not come naturally let alone “CTRL P”. The icon is very nice and simple. Only issue I have with it is when printing milestones, the calendar does not show, only the numbers and the milestones. Everything else is white-out. I’m using Firefox. Thank you again. The last two weeks have been very exiting. Lots of updates. |
