Greetings,

In the Messages video tutorial it shows that you can have images inserted into your message. It doesn’t explain how.

Any idea???

thanks jack

Just use HTML or you can use Textile’s shortcut:

Just surround an image URL with ”!” (no quotes) and the image will be inserted.

Thanks Jason,

Are you folks going to improve this functionality? like allowing Messages users to upload images while creating the message? It would be great to just drag an image onto the edit payne to insert it (unrealistic I know); but making Messages more Forum like would be really great.

Thanks again.

We don’t comment on future features or ideas, but we have noted your request.

Sorry, I don’t understand, never worked with html. I have an image in a Word-document, is it possible to copy it from the document and paste it into a message? When not, how do I get that image in a message by using htmlcode.

wilco, you would first have to save & then load that image into an FTP server. Either as a file within a Basecamp project, or maybe an FTP server you already use for a similar purpose. (Flickr is a similar kind of image storage location.) Once you have that file available to the web, you can then insert a link to get to that file.

I hope that makes sense, and if not, try to grab someone around you that has done something similar. Unfortunately, the specifics of your situation could make it difficult to quickly explain in a forum post. Good luck!

ok, thanks, now I understand how it works. But problem, I have no FTP-server. To bad. would be nice if there would be an easier way to handle images in messages. I ll upload it as a file to basecamp and then trye to link it to the message. Hope it works.

after some trying I got it working. There should be some more info in the helpfiles about this. This is how it works. Load the jpg-file to basecamp. Click in basecamp on the filename, so you can actually see the image. Now copy the webadres. Go to messages, open the message or make a new one. Wherever you want showup the image, paste the webadres between two… like this: Save the message and you can see the image in the message. It works but it is not my favourite way. Thats the problem with some things with basecamp. For programmers and people used to html this is a normal way, but for people who arend used to html and are plain officeworkers, its a pain in the ass. The want it to work like they are used to in word and other officeprograms. Its the same with underline and bold.

Sorry using those two signs (this one: !) with the word webadres between them, gives a not found image as you see. I hope my explannation is clear.

i found an easy way to insert an image. I have BC open in 2 tabs. One has files the other has messages. If you want to insert an image into a message upload it first to Files and then right click on the file name link and select “copy link location”. then go to Messages and paste the URL into your message post and put ! on either side of your image url and your good to go.

It works but it’s still a bit clunky considering how elegant BC is.

We have been displaying images in messages for awhile now but all of a sudden we are getting a ‘display nonsecure item’ error/alert when linking to an image outside of BC. Is anyone else having the problem? I know that this should be normal for security reasons but I don’t recall this problem happening before.

Ken, if the URL for the image is http instead of https, and your Basecamp account is running as https then your browser may prompt you.

You could also try Picamatic for hosting your images in a fast and easy way. Much faster and easier than elsewhere!
