Which account lets me use my own ftp-server?

Hi there,

I might have been out-of-touch for a while, but I seem to remember having the option to change my file-settings for Basecamp, so I could host my files not on the Basecamp-server, but on my own ftp-server. Where has this setting gone? Was it removed? Is it only available for accounts beyond mine (Personal)?

This is an old option that we don’t support any more. We’ve since phased this out for customers who never used the feature. If you’ve used FTP in the past you still have access to the feature, but if you’ve always used Basecamp file storage the option to switch is no longer available.

That’s too bad, I guess. thanks for the quick response!

Thanks Sarah;

We are using our own fileserver since 2005. BC in that time did not have much options. Since you are adding features with tumbnails we would like to switch maybe. If we would switch now to the BC file server we will have some issues.

Can you advise on: -How do you handle old and new files? I believe we will only see the new ones. Can we upload the old onces in one go ? Or can your staff help? -What if the 50GB is full; can we pay for extra or do you have backup function so we can archive old projects.

Any advise how to make a smooth transition? Anybody else advise on do’s and dont’s ?

Big thanks

JPB: This is explained in the sidebar on the File Upload Settings screen (Dashboard -> Settings -> File Upload Settings).

I’ll recap:

Files on your FTP server will stay on your FTP server and linked up just as they were before. Nothing changes with old files. New files will be hosted on Basecamp.

50 GB is the most we offer at this time. We may offer additional space down the road.

Oh no, you “phased this out”? It was one of the features that appealed to me. I am a fairly new customer (1 month) and would like to use the feature since we have our own server and have some very large teleconference MP3’s we’d like to post. Any chance I can get in?

:/ This would have been an feature that one of the companies I work with would have liked, especially since they frequently deal with files in the GB range. Seismic plots are HUGE.

Is it possible to bring this back? Or even just offer it as an add on, I’d pay to have it. :)
