Maybe there’s something that can be done to fix it up, but I’m starting to really not like this new menu.

First, the layout is different so my eyes have to adjust to the layout of the initial popup, with the project name in bold above the company name in grey. Then if the project isn’t there, I have to readjust to the layout of the menu, with the company name in bold above the project name not in bold. I find this just makes finding the project I want all the more difficult. The first thing my eyes go to is the bold, which is different from one list to the other. Then, sometimes my project still isn’t there! Why can’t we have all projects in this menu? What’s the point of having a “most recent” list and a list of “others” if not all my projects are on the “others” list? Basically, what we have is two “recent projects” lists instead of one “recent” list and a list for “I didn’t find my project in the recent list”. I absolutely love the “switch project” menu now that it keeps me on the same type of page. I keep a window open for Time and simply switch from project to project and enter my time for the day. Not being able to use the menu means having to go back to the Dashboard, load all that content, enter the other project, load the overview page and all its content, and click on the Time tab. It’s quite an increase in the time it takes to get to the Time tab for another project which frankly I find quite annoying. And it is a waste of your database access and server time as well to have me load those two intermediate pages filled with a multitude of unneeded database information to get there.

Second, the Javascript doesn’t seem to work well or consistently. Perhaps my system is different than most, Firefox 2 on Ubuntu. But the use of this menu seems littered with inconsistency and awkward functionality. Sometimes if I click on “Switch to a different project” the page immediately starts to reload before I’ve even selected a project. Sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes when I click to open the “Other recently accessed projects” SELECT menu, the entire popup disappears if I leave the mouse over the original SELECT and don’t move it down into the SELECT’s menu itself. Sometimes it doesn’t. And I can find no reliable way to reproduce either of these.

All in all, I just don’t think I like this new menu and wish we could go back to the old one. Don’t get me wrong, I do love and appreciate the many new features Basecamp has added lately. This is really the only one I don’t like.
