Easier way to upload files from email attachments

Avatar ChrisJ 19 posts Does anyone know of an easier way to upload files from email attachments? These are files that come from people that are not on Basecamp (and never will be). Currently, my process is as follows:
  • I save the attachment to a temporary folder
  • Typically I’ll Winzip and encrypt the file
  • I then create a message in BC, browse for and attach the file and then upload it
  • I then go back and delete the file from the temp folder

I doesn’t sound that bad but frankly its a pain because I constantly having to browse for the appropriate folder.

Does anyone have a quicker way to do this?

I use a temporary folder on my desktop which I always have quick access to (a shortcut is almost always present in the save as/opan as dialog). I clean the folder once a day but you could have a script which takes care of that for you.

Just a quick plug here, but it fits in perfectly with what you’re doing:

I’ve built a service called Mailmanagr on top of the Basecamp API so that you can “e-mail Basecamp”. You can set up an e-mail address for projects and then just send (or forward) messages to that address (including file attachments).

Feel free to give it a try: Mailmanagr

With the new functionality recently added to email attachements into basecamp via replying to a previous post you could have a standard “contact” whose email adderss was the reply address for one message. Then when forwarding emails to this recipient your attachment would also get uploaded.

Hope this helps
