Transferring between Projects

Avatar teencoach 1 post

I have just upgraded from the free 1 project version to the 3 projects. What I need to do is separate a number of items from project 1 into Projects 2 and 3. Is there a way i can do this? Maybe duplicate project and then delete selectively? Or copy and past To do Lists ? or ?

Thanks

I also need help with transferring stuff between two projects – pictures uploaded to the wrong project.
Part of my problem is that I can’t find a straightforward way to download files, messages, pictures etc without cutting and pasting or dragging to desktop. Is there one? I think there should be.
Thanks

Many many many people have asked this for the last 6 months, so did I a few times.
Nobody get any answer from 37 signals.

I have just upgraded from the free version to the 35 project version, and now I need to move dozens of messages, todos, etc from one project to a couple dozen new projects. In fact, I want to make each category of messages in the original project a new project in and of itself. Is this simple?

Does anyone know if there is a simple way to IMPORT XML data into BC? That might make it easy, since I could export everything in XML, then tweak it offline, then re-import. I’m going to go searching for ‘import xml’ now…

37 Signals responds via email:

Hi Joel,

Basecamp doesn’t allow imports in any format, so to do this you’ll need to develop something using our Basecamp API.

We’ve answered this question in a few different threads.

At this time projects can’t be moved between accounts. We may consider adding this feature to a future version of Basecamp, but at this time we don’t offer this option.

´we may consider adding this future…´

Hmm, so you didn´t consider it yet! I can not understand that!
Jason, Basecamp is a really good thing, and I like that you are finetuning it. But we costumers are missing 2 essential things, moving things between projects en between accounts and second a good backup with import.

I think these are the most important now.

I agree, there should be a way to transfer content from one project to another. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this for days. If BC admins realize there is a need, and they have answered the question in a few threads, what’s keeping you from making this a priority? You should at least include information about this topic in your FAQs so users don’t have to spend untold hours searching the customer forum in hopes of finding their answer.

Just found this thread and I’m not happy to hear it. This would be an essential feature in my eyes. Can you guys move this to near the top of your enhancements list ?

I am also in need of this. I have a client who I need to share some to do’s etc, but dont want to give him access to the entire internal project. The best thing I could think of was copying a to do from one project to another.

add me to the complainers as well, this is now causing us major problems and despite many requests has not been addressed.

ditto, we need this!

We need this: We had a project that has morphed and needs to be split—but then how do we shift to-dos, files, milestones, etc. over to the new projects?

This by far and away the biggest problem with Basecamp. My projects have grown rapidly and I need to split them into more manageable pieces without cutting and pasting each item. Being able to copy an entire project would allow us to set up templates to re-use. This seems like a money-maker for 37sig with all the account upgrades it would generate.
