Client Time Tracking
|

How come there isn’t any ability to do time tracking with clients? We do a lot of work with contractors, and it would be great if they could log their hours through basecamp just like any other employee. I’m sure there are tons of other times when this would be preferable. This could be another level of permission for clients (messages & files; plus time tracking; plus to-dos; plus milestones). I guess part of the problem is that a “client” refers to someone you’re doing work for, not someone you’re doing work with, but I imagine a lot of people are using Basecamp this way. In fact, we actually split up most of our company into “clients” for the different departments so we’d have better control over user permissions (something else I’d actually like to see – access control for your own company), but now I’m regretting this because we can’t do time tracking for anyone anymore. |

I ended up adding my main contact for a client to my own company in Basecamp with the ‘add to new projects’ disabled, then enable them for their specific project, just so they could see the time tracking sheet. We mainly use prepaid contracts, so having time spent visible gives the client an instant view of how many hours they’ve used so far .. way better than having to bug us for a CSV export. Adding it after milestones makes the most sense I guess. Would be great! |

Sounds like a good idea having this ability. |
