Please add the ability to attach comments to To Do entries.

We wish to keep the To Do entries pithy so the list can be easily read. Currently users either bloat the To Do entry itself or create a message thread associated with the To Do by having the same name. Both workarounds are cumbersome.

Does the system automatically link the To-Do with the Message if they have the same name for you? It doesn’t for me and that would do fine. We tend to put our names in the To-Do and assign it back to the person you want to read/comment next. Absolutely awkward.

What would be nice is if you used the same title (exactly) in the To-Do list as a Message thread then the To-Do item becomes a link to the Message thread. Maybe also working the other way, so a button/link from a Message thread that says “Make To-Do item from this message”.

I know you could manually type an HTML <a> tag around the To-Do title linking it manually to the message, but most of my clients aren’t technical enough to do.

This is a major pain in the ass for us at the moment, so any chance of a quick fix would be great ;-)

I’m not sure I’d like the name to automatically create a link to a message thread. I’d rather take specific action. It’s a nice idea, though.

Our style is to create a message thread to discuss an issue. Once resolved, we create a to-do. That’s a good point to have an option like “Create an associated To Do item” that could then create the connection.

The general idea is to be able to create the association one way or the other so the parties involved can quickly find all related materials.

Along the same lines, why not have the ability to add comments to a to-do? That would allow folks to povide updates on progress or ask questions about the task, all directly related to the task.

we would like to move here from trac, but trac has the ability to post messages on todo’s. we have a ton of todo’s and no way for the client to comment on a specific task. this is leading us to create many more milestones with due dates that necessarily should not have a due date, ... because they are tasks that just need to be done (aka todo’s). the fact that messages can only be tied to milestones and even specific todo lists are really hindering our ability to make the switch.
