to-do deadlines ... again
addign my voice … to-dos need to have due dates. Too many milestones clutters up everything. |
I sound like a broken record but this is a big issue for us so am adding my vote…again :). And once again, to-dates can be optional for all those who do not need it and/or think that it would make basecamp to cumbersome. |

i wholeheartedly agree. have commented on this elsewhere also. there must be a way, similar to milestones, that you can timeline to-dos without them appearing on the milestone calender. would be very handy :-) |
Hi all – If you are interested in adding deadlines to to-dos, you might want to check out Treetop. It’s a Basecamp extra that is in beta right now. Your input about how to best implement the deadline feature would be much appreciated. Thanks – j |

Totally agree with the suggestions above. Having a deadline / due date with an alert feature would be really handy. Also, certain to do items also need to be repeated each week, month etc. having a repeat scheduled reminder would be great :-) |

I agree with the above as well. We have been testing out Basecamp recently and this is the only thing that is holding us back from completely going over to using it. Our to-dos are due by a certain date and having to set up everything as a milestone is silly. This doesn’t add too many things to Basecamp, this makes it more usable. I would really like to know the argument against this. I understand not making the software too complex, that’s part of the reason we would like to make Basecamp work for us; but if you read through the feature requests and the how do you use basecamp sections of the forums, this is requested in different ways throughout. Many people seem to be using milestones with to-do items to fill the need for this, which in reality, makes the software more difficult to use. |

agreed. |

Everytime this topic comes up, I agree again and again. To Dos are tasks. Tasks have deadlines. To Dos need deadlines. Highrise has deadlines on its To Dos. To Dos are To Dos. |
I just found that highrise has dates and times on tasks. PLEASE migrate that over to basecamp (ASAP!) Thank you! (backpack needs this for it’s to do items also, btw). |

Perhaps Basecamp really should have deadlines – perhaps then 37 Signals staff could put deadlines on their own To Do’s as well and actually meet some of the features that are requested in this forum ;-) |

Not my top feature request, but would certainly help! |

I’m new and have been using basecamp over the past few days with an increasing sense of depression at the realisation that it might look nice but some very basic essential features are just not there and by the looks of thing these are features that have been requested numerous times. If this treetop thing doesn’t make a major difference I will be taking my many projects off somehwere else. That would be a shame as these features really seem to be simple compared to the useful things like writeboard. And frankly I’m fed up with looking for a good functional system that we can use. Do we really have to design one ourselves? I don’t believe it. |

I’ve been using Basecamp for a very long time. I’ve referred it’s use to several of my clients and I would conservatively guess that there are several thousand users out there thanks to my evangelism. Unfortunately I have one foot out the door and one foot in jugglemystuff . It’s as if they’ve been lurking in Basecamp’s forum and have implemented all of the requests that we’ve been shouting for…and then some! |

agreed sambyer – bq.Their lack of innovation and stagnation will slowly eat away at their monthly annuity checks. That’s too bad. I really appreciate how you’ve helped my career. But I can only stay loyal so long in the face of competitive offerings. It seems that competitors are continually deploying updated/new offerings and Basecamp gets a update once every six months. Changing the look of the application does not count. However, I’m vested so I’ll cross my fingers and hope they pick up the development pace. |

+1 – this would be very nice and wouldn’t have to get in the way at all if implemented with typical 37signals TLC. |
I definitely agree- I was shocked to find that I could not apply dealines to To Do items. Please implement this. |
Hi all – There’s a screencast available that demonstrates how to manage Basecamp to-dos (including due dates) using Treetop. If you are interested, please check it out. Cheers! j |

+ 9 here. It’s the one major thing that we would all really like to see implemented as soon as possible. |
+5. I am working around it but it’s the number one complaint of my clients about it, even though they love everything else. Please implement this feature… everything else right now works great. Agreed about the TLC – I have faith it won’t be messy with how 37s implements stuff. Just need it. |

There’s this site I’ve been playing around with: http://todoist.com/ It allows you to assign to-do’s with deadlines. Even better, it allows to-do’s to be sorted by hierarchies. Quite often, before one to-do can be completed, a different one has to be completed by someone else first. |
Please, give us ability to deadline all out to-dos. From time to time we print out our todo lists and start time estimating them via pen on paper. Basecamp is a really good tool but please – we need a way of estimating our workload. |
