Google Doc integration?

Will there be a time when Basecamp will allow Google Docs and Google Calendar integration?

So I was explaining to one of our customers of how we use basecamp to collaborate on all projects and how simple it was to get things done. He was so exited that he could not wait to try it out. Sad to say that when he started working with hit he was disappointed, to say the least. As we went along on the demo I understood why he was not liking the product. He thought you can have document collaboration within basecamp. I told him we sort of do with the Whiteboard but he stated for organizing a document, for example a requirements document, you need MS Excel like features. He started ranting how much Google Docs saved his team time and effort and if basecamp had something similar. Sad to say I could not reply properly to his question.

I think adding Google docs and calendar integration would increase user acceptance of Basecamp tremendously. Just hope the Admins can make it happen.

I was wondering the same thing! But something tells me (maybe the existence of Writeboard…) that this won’t be happening since Writeboard is a basic (very basic) version of a word processor. But I’d LOVE to see Basecamp integrate with Google Docs!

Making another Google Docs is not useful, they’re good enough and there’s other good online collaborative office software already.

But a Basecamp feature to just manage links to external documents, would be great. Maybe something added onto the File management, wouldn’t that make sense? (ie, make a file type “external doc”)

Hi, we have the same issue as Google docs is so much more powerful – we’ve simple used the messages area of Basecamp to get around this and pasted in the URL of the google doc. You can post a comment each time you update the doc and if you want to be neater with the URL you can insert it inside a href tags and use _blank to open the doc in a new window
Hope this helps – Google doc integration would def be a big plus for Basecamp though :)

Integration Google Calendar and Google Docs would be perfect, especially Calendar, as now I use gCalendar for managing my appointments and events, and use 2 system is not optimal.

Now it’s possible to get basecamp milestones into gCal, I would like to input milestones in gCal and get them in Basecamp.

Why would 37signals do Google Doc integration when they don’t have Backpack or Highrise integration?

I would also like to be able to view and edit my files in basecamp from within the cloud using google docs.

google docs integration would be good. simply allowing a simple way to link a google doc to a message thread, milestone, etc would be useful alone.

+1 on the last one: even having a simpler way to link to google docs meets a lot of the google docs integration stuff…

for now just use the little hack from Andrew Crow and put your google documents (and gcalendar) right into writeboard. use the following and it’ll pop right in

<iframe src="//docs.google.com/YOURDOCHERE" frameborder="0" height="600" scrolling="no" width="725"></iframe>

+1 on google integration…do not quite understand how to use the hack of Andrew Crow and make google doc pop in…more detail?...thank you.

Without an integration, could we post a link?

Sylvain

1. Start a new write board.

2. Paste in this

<iframe src="//docs.google.com/YOURDOCHERE" height="600" frameborder="0" width="725" scrolling="no"></iframe>

(where it says YOURDOCHERE grab the last half of the code and put it in)
