Edit permissions by person, not project

I’d love to be able to login, click people, select a person, and in the right column give/specify access to each project.

We use basecamp for a Nonprofit Foundation to help restore the Byrd Theatre ( www.byrdtheatre.com – and yes this website will be redone – it’s nasty). We treat each committee as a company and the Board members as the main company. We are just starting so projects have already been added and if a new person is added in a committee we must go into EVERY project and add them rather than going to one place for that person. The board members are the only persons allowed into every project, and every new project and it is much easier to add them to every project (via the allow access button).

It would be most helpful if one could allow a person access to all in that company in one click rather than 50 – and edit permissions for that one person in one place.

Oh and most of our users are 40+ and having more administrators at this point is not such a good idea… my dad is hard enough to teach.

I must say this is one of the most frustrating things about Basecamp for me. My company uses it for collaboration. We have 100+ employees and 75 or so projects at any one time. When adding new users I have to add them to about 15 projects that all employees can access. I created 2 users the other day and it took me almost 20 minutes.

We’re working on this, but it may be a while since it digs pretty deep into some fundamental aspects of how people and permissions work in Basecamp. We are aware of the hassle and we agree it’s a hassle. It’s just a matter of working through some deep issues before we can make this happen.
