i want just a basic calendar i can look at. something separate from milestones. would be great to integrate w/ calendar app just like milestones. thanks! |

An option would be to publish a google calendar to your overview page. This requires an iframe, which 37s doesn’t recommend, but it does work. |
Here, here. A feature that would allow for time specific entry as well. |
Ok so basecamp admins don’t want you to embed a google calendar on the project, yet they don’t provide the tools needed to simply get the job done. If they don’t want us to embed a calendar, then why can’t basecamp create one? nothing big, look at google as an example? simple calendar that you can add comments to events and if possible files. I’m not thinking Gannt charts here, god knows I hate them, but a simple calendar. Most of my users are requesting a feature where they can record meetings and add comments about the meetings and add files to the meetings. If you build it, they will come. |
I’d also appreciate a separate calendar – one like in Backpack would be just excellent, but it wouldn’t have to be that elaborate (drag & drop moving of dates would not be necessary, IMHO). |
So why not use Backpack? or Google Calendar? or iCal? You can subscribe to the project milestones and have them show up in your calendar. We do this using iCal and it works very well. |
The basic Idea is to have a internal calendar on basecamp without having to use a third party solution, that is not supported or might break with future updates. iCal is supported but embedding a Google calendar is not. Furthermore not everyone has iCal and not everyone uses Google. I’m actually beta testing MyQuire which has a very nice and simple internal calendar that you can change to day, week and monthly views. Works much like Google except that its internal for the project management software. No need for third party software or mashing. When it comes to calendar you really want everyone to be able to see it, and if the permissions are set, edit it. Creating a calendar on the overview page is best. The tool is there, using Milestones and the milestone calendar, 37signals just has to enhance it. |

I’m very happy managing multiple projects w/ Basecamp, but the lack of a separate calendar is a drawback for us. We’d love to keep everyone on Basecamp but not everyone uses iCal. I’d love to see a timeline feature in a master calendar where you can work backwards from the milestone, and preferably be able to color code or tag separate projects or users. For ex: report published 12/1, to printer 11/15, copyedited by 11/10, etc – where there’s only one “milestone” but many goals to meet along the way. If this exists and I’m missing it (I’m still new) I’m all ears. Thanks! |

This must be on the most-requested list by now. I’d love to see Backpack’s calendar in Basecamp. |
any idea of basecamp will take this up – am trying to have work take basecamp up and a calender would help the case; aaron |
as far as using iCal goes – I have people complaining about needing to switch between too many different tools – Highrise, Basecamp, Backpack, Google Docs – adding iCal would definitely get me hung!!! |
My 2 cents here… The need for calendaring capability is large and milestones does not get it done. I love the idea of being able to embed useful tools into Basecamp pages. My group needs to be able to place meeting times etc into our work |
I would like to add my request for a basic calendar. I would also like to be able to produce a chronological list of events which would look at all of my projects |
Backpack integration with Basecamp is the killer app come on guys! charge me a little extra for basecamp, I don’t care – need it! |
While I understand that Basecamp can’t (and probably never will) do everything, it certainly seems that adding a calendar feature would be the next logical evolutionary feature. Honestly, the absence of a calendar is the one thing that could ultimately cause us to consider leaving Basecamp. That’s not our plan, but the lack of a calendar that can be shared and edited by authorized users is a glaring deficiency. |
I agree. Implementing a regular calender that we can put anything on would definitely be the best option. |

You know folks – I’ve been keeping tabs on this particular post b/c I;m very interested in some decent calendar ability within BC. But it occurs to me that maybe, just maybe, the small 37S team is working on something bigger than (but still as simple as) the Backpack calendar, something more in keeping with project mgmt. Don’t get me wrong – having a calendar for BASIC stuff like appts etc would be great. But also having a basic “project calendar” where we can say I need this project completely done by X-date, and then add in backdates where the sub-projects/tasks have to be finished, (maybe even including some ability to say one task can’t start until another is finished). Sort of like what awilliam says in his post above about a timeline. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to learn that 37s was already (quietly) hard at work on this… So, let’s be patient and ask everyone who uses our BC’s to chime in here :-) |

I’ve read 37sig’s book and know that they ignore all feature requests unless they keep coming back! So This one should get implemented eventually! Come on guys, this is the one thing Basecamp is lacking. Duncan |

I think this plus due dates on To-Dos are the most often requested features. +10 |
I agree… just posting to remind 37S how important this is. I’m a subscriber (signed up for the next few months at least) and would like an integrated calendar and dates on todos. |
Another request for a basic calendar feature, as well as the ability to add due dates to To-Dos. It would also be nice to add a “time due” field to milestones, not just a “date due”. I run a video game production company with clients, team members, and contractors spread all over the globe. Basecamp has been a fantastic tool for team collaboration and project management. It boggles the mind why these basic features weren’t included in what it otherwise a very thorough and versatile tool. It’s like a luxury car that forgot to include a stereo. I’ve been hearing very good things about the calendar in Backpack. Too bad it’s in a completely separate application. If only it were accessible from its own tab within Basecamp… |
Here’s another vote for an integrated, project specific, shared calendar in BaseCamp using the ics standard (like the Backpack calendar). I think this is the most obvious shortcoming of BaseCamp. The calendar feature could also be used to display project Milestones. By the way … It would also be helpful to display a multi-day project activity/event on the calendar, in addition to the single date Milestone, as currently implemented. |
I agree with requesting a calendar for Todos or general activity for Basecamp. Right now I use Daylite, ical, and google calendar. I use spanning sync so they all sync – any change anywhere is reflected everywhere. That’s the best. |
I agree, this is one feature that is missing. Also, within calendars the ability to schedule and sent events, meetings, etc., a big part of project management is coordinating and meeting with people. Do you know if they are considering this for an upcoming release? |

ICal Does work well for my use – but my client would really benefit being able to see the mile stones as a calendar. |
