My company is looking very seriously into using Basecamp for our primary project management solution, but we absolutely depend on project numbers for invoice tracking, job tracking between departments, etc.

Is there any chance of a numbering system being added as an option for Basecamp? I’m extremely impressed with it overall, but honestly this is a bit of a breaking point for our company.

If this is something that could be done via the API, that’d be great, but it seems like the database is going to have some kind of numerical id field, so why shouldn’t that be accessible?

I vote for this as well! With our company, however, we create custom job codes based on the client and quarter they are in. This would be an EXCELLENT feature to have – much like Clients & Profits.

Ummmm, projects are already numbered, as are comments, to-dos …

Go to the dashboard and hover the mouse over a project – look at the url – each project has a unique 6 digit number.

Example: companyname.projectpath.com/projects/893349

I wonder why this is needed, we have a simple solution to this and so have others.
Text in project name = “LEV06-006 Revolution Stores”

three first letters indicated the client – next the year – next the projectnumber in that year -next the project name.
