Project Status

Hello, Any thought on adding a ‘Project Status’ field or tab? Somewhere where I could write notes etc. I have been using Basecamp but find it hard to keep track of the status of each project. Some of the status’s would be. Out to client, in production, at printer etc. Anyone have any ideas on how to track this? DB |

How about making a project called “Project Status” and just post notes about each project in the messages section? |

Make a Private To Do List called “Status” or whatever. Order it at the top of your To Do Lists if you desire. For each person on the project have them update their status on a To Do Item that is assigned to them, or use an Anyone item if you just need a general status (but then you could just as easily update a Message). These To Do Items would never be checked off, just edited as needed. If you’re feeling ambitious, create a report with the API to scan all your projects and give you a nice roll up of statuses across all projects. |

Thanks for the ideas. As you can see by my screen name I am ‘not a web geek’ so I really don’t know what an API is BUT I do like the idea of creating a to-do list called project status, that might work. Thanks again. DB |

DB, I’d like to do the same thing. Basecamp is a great collaboration tool, but I find that the one thing it lacks is something like a project status page. I’m in print, too, so I’d like to be able to track- Currently, my team is using a Writeboard document and have each project listed in a table format, like so: Project, Status, Action Needed, Who is responsible (sorry, had to remove table symbols for clarity) If this was a page, I could see each of the fields being populated by other elements from Basecamp like the “Project” name, of course. “Status” could be the latest message posted—shortened, if needed like some rss readers do. “Action Needed” and “Who is Responsible” could be based on milestones or to do. Even if these fields didn’t auto populate, editable text fields would be better than nothing. It’s just that using Writeboard can become confusing when using a table because text and the ”|” characters wrap, and it takes a minute longer to locate the beginning and ending of a row. Jason, as good and as simple is your idea to just create a “Project Status” project, it still does not provide the the visual or at-a-glance overview that I think DB and I are looking for. If it’s possible , and if you’re interested, I’d like to speak to you about this in more detail. |
