As we work with Base Camp we have discovered that we have one general project that is a catch all for ideas and suggested actions. As these are sorted out, they need to be moved to more specific projects. But moving Messages (and accompanying comments) to new projects is cumbersome at best.

The only way it can be done now is to delete the message from one project and post it anew to another project. Doing, this however, loses the comments.

How difficult would it be to design base camp so that a message could be grabbed and dragged into another project?

Dennis—drag and drop of messages wouldn’t be the right method, but we are considering moving items between projects in other ways in a future version.

Jason, what about moving items/projects between accounts, will this be possible too? I have an account with one off my clients, we but want to split it and client taking his own account. Problem is how to get projects from my account to clients account. Can you tell a little bit more about ‘future’. Are you thinking in months of year?

Wilco, I doubt that will ever happen. Too few people would use such a feature for it to be viable.

It just happens from time to time that something small gets just big enough to be its own project. Once its begin enough, we do thru the trouble manually but its work. So please add soon.

+1 Even if the (much-needed) feature is made available only to admin(s), it’s still acceptable and greatly helpful.

another vote for moving; I have one client where each time I start a new project I copy messages with account access, QA environments, etc. in from the old project…

I’d like to add myself to the list of petitioners for being able to move files/messages/to-do’s between projects will very much appreciate an order-of-magnitude guesstimate as to when this might occur. Thanks!

Here’s another vote for being able to move messages between projects.
I have some clients that have a tendency to post comments on the wrong project.
Being able to move them would help me keep things organized.

It would be of great value to our company to be able to move posts and files between projects. While my staff is computer literate and organized so that they leave posts in the right project, my clients will often leave stuff in any of their currently active projects. This makes it difficult for us to find where that file or comment is a week or two down the road.

Please, please, please add this feature!!!

We also wish for the ability to move sections of info or messages w/comments around in Basecamp. Possibly similar to reordering a ToDo list, by dragging an icon in the left column. Our workaround is to open multiple windows of Basecamp projects and copy&paste from one project or message stream to another.

I’d like to +1 all the above requests for moving messages between projects. All our messages until now have been in a single project, but now we’ve created separate Sales and Development projects and we’d like to move messages into the appropriate project. This feature would really help growing organisations who become increasingly dependent upon Basecamp.
