iPhone compatibility?

Avatar Dan B 2 posts

Hello!

This is my first post, and I’d just like to say thanks for an awesome product!

I’m curious if there are plans to make Basecamp work better on the iPhone browser? I’ve only tried out a few things on Basecamp through the iPhone, one of which was To-Do lists. I can create to-dos just the same as on a desktop computer, but unfortunately I can’t delete/edit/move to-dos because that requires a mouse rollover which the iPhone browser doesn’t support.

Or maybe there are plans to make a site specific for iPhones? ; )

Thanks again!
-Dan

We launched an iPhone compatible version of Ta-da today as our first foray into iPhone-specific UIs. We will be looking into simplified iPhone versions of Basecamp and Highrise as well, but I can’t say when or anything more at this time.

Personally, I’d vote for Backpack to be iPhone-UI-enabled. The lack of Tasks and decent notes on iPhone is disappointing.

Can’t wait until the basecamp version is complete. Anyone got any workarounds in the meantime?

Hi there – You might want to check out Outpost. It’s an offshoot of Treetop which is a Basecamp extra that is currently in beta. Outpost is still pretty much read-only, although you can complete or uncomplete todos, which is pretty handy. Outpost talks directly to Basecamp via the Basecamp API, so, unlike Treetop, none of your information is stored on the Treetop server. Hope you like it! Thanks – j

I’d also suggest you keep an eye on Periscope Gadget, which is an iGoogle gadget that lets you control your Basecamp activity remotely. You can also integrate more than one Basecamp account, which saves time bouncing between screens on the website. It is currently in beta, but you can leave your email address and we’ll let you know when it launches. The great thing about the gadget is that it lets you have control on your iGoogle page, but ALSO on your Windows Desktop through Google Desktop and on your iPhone through Google’s mobile version of iGoogle. Here’s the link: http://periscopegadget.com/
