Daily Todo list

Avatar tandy_sids 1 post

At the beginning of a day, I always plan my day to see what I need to accomplish that day and in what order. If there was some to accomplish this through Basecamp that would be great.

Essentially, I could login and from the various to-do lists, check mark the ones that I want to complete today. That would create a temporary list (maybe called Today list) containing everything that I checked. At the end of the day if i didn’t complete something, they would go back to their original locations.

tandy,

That’s a great idea, but it may not have broad approval for all the users of Basecamp. As a thought, since you can drap items between lists, you could always have a code in each To-Do indicating which list it belongs to (if it’s not already understood by the type of task), and then drag that day’s stuff into your “Today” list. If it’s completed, great. If not, you would just need to drag it back at the end of the day. It’s certainly not glamorous, but it might fit your immediate needs.

The only other idea would be to build an API interface that could help store & control the tasks & then do the moves for you. A lot more involved though. Good luck!

I’ve started to use highrise for my to-dos. The implementation is MUCH better than basecamp’s or the (purposely simple) tadalist, which used to be my bread-and-butter todo app. It does hurt having to put to-dos in two places, but hopefully the APIs will be evolved enough soon for something like tandy_sids idea to be feasible.

Highrise is definitely better for your own personal list of things to do. Highrise is more about “tasks that I need to get done” and much less about a collaborative list of things that need to get done for a project. To-dos in Basecamp are great for lists of stuff a project needs.

I’ve actually found backpack more useful for my own personal list of todos. I create multiple lists in one project, and move stuff up to the next actions when its time for it to be done.

Highrise is a little off for me because most of the items in my todos don’t have a specific day to be done.

I use a “today” and “this week” list (depending on the project). Every to-do begins life as part of a distinct to-do list and then gets moved into a priority list as my week (or day) is planned. Having a date, a priority or the check mark mentioned by @tandy_sids would allow you to follow this same to-do methodology in a simpler, more elegant, less time-consuming fashion…but doing the brute-force shuffling of to-do’s between lists still gets the job done.

Though I’ve resigned myself to the fact that we won’t get anything to improve on this method (it’s been frequently discussed on other threads), I do hold on to the hope that 37s at least fixes the bug that doesn’t allow to-do’s to be moved into an empty to-do list (have to create a dummy to-do to work around this). Baby steps.
