Fav Icon needed
|
|
I’ve got BaseCamp in my Toolbar Bookmark favorites… you know, the links that show at the top of the browser window. Well, the icon next to it is very plain. It’s a plain white document… because you guys don’t have a fav icon specified. This is a very simple thing to do. I’d like you guys to add a fav icon so I can visually see it and make it easy to find for myself. Google Mail has an envelope. Google Cal has a calendar icon. Constant Contact has a CC icon. Pandora has an icon. Zoho CRM has a Z icon. I know its a small thing… but thats why you guys should do it soon :D |

Or maybe allow people to upload a favicon |

Melvin, Would prefer it to be optional as we like the fact that our clients think this is our system and not one we buy in. Being able to upload your own favicon would be good though. |

I agree rich, The favicon doesn’t have to be a BaseCamp icon. It can be something like a check box or something generic. I would prefer ability to upload a fav icon to having a standard one. ~ mel |

I can imagine there may be problems with us all uploading favicons although we have one on our company site and clients love it! I would vote for a nice check box for us all! |

Anything to help me distinguish it from Highrise, Highrise from Constant Contact, Constant Contact from my Wordpress admin, etc. Check box works for me. |

I agree. Please add this feature. I asked before and I was told it can’t happen because lots of customers want to brand basecamp. And favicons would not let them fully control the branding. But why not have an option for administrators to upload their preferred favicon. That way every company could have a personalized favicon. Is that possible? |

The ability to upload your own FAV Icon would be great |

Dear Jason et al, I, too, am desperate for favicons across the product line. It only makes sense. We’re all using 37signals’ products because we want to be efficient aned productive. Of course we want an efficient way to access them all. I know people are concerned about branding. 1) Maybe you could show them how to change the favicons if they really wanted to. 2) But the truth is, a tiny, simple shape in a solid color tucked up amongst all the other bookmarklets crammed into the toolbar, well, it’s not going to destry anybody’s look & feel. Now I know you’ve heard this request before and let it go. I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but I had this brilliant idea, and I thought maybe you’d love it so much, you couldn’t help but change your minds! :D I was picturing simple little spheres / bullets / dots, one bright color for each product. And, coincidentally, the concept even ties into the little dots in your logo. I think that’s particularly nice. Oh, please say yes! We need these favicons. (Well, as much as anyone can “need” a favicon, anyway. :) Just one note: It would be really nice if each dot was a little different inside. Something very subtle and very monochromatic—not the kind of thing you’d ordinarily notice, really. Maybe the quiet outline of a different shape on each one; maybe the shadow of a design or letter; maybe just a a really quiet texture. It’d give each dot a nice bit of a depth and, if anybody happens to be color-blind, it would give them a nice double-check. Thanks for listening, anyway. Happy New Year, everybody! |

keep us posted on this. it would be useful to have this for my browser’s tabs and bookmarks bar. |

+1 At our organization, we use Basecamp to manage web & database (web based) projects. I usually have about 10-15 tabs open at a time and could really use a favicon to distinguish tabs. I would prefer a Basecamp logo (or a checkbox) but something you could customize would also work for me. Thanks! |
|
|
+1 Though a customizable favicon would be cool, I could simply use something that distinguishes the Basecamp (and Highrise) tab from the rest. Checkmark or something similar would be fine. While you’re at it, it would be cool to have an iPhone Webclip icon too, but I can get by without it. |

+1, a default favicon with the ability to overwrite with one’s own |
|
|
++ for default favicon with the option of uploading a custom one. |

+1 Please! I don’t think you need to allow users to upload their own favicons, simply have a favicon that allows me to quickly find the tab in firefox with my todo list. I am quite supprised that such a simple feature request that makes the app easier to use has been ignored by 37s for over a year! I say ignored because I don’t see any replies from any 37s employees as to why they might not want to do this. Thanks! |

Ok, so I was facing this same problem and here is the solution I used. First, let me say I am using Firefox. I found an extension called Favicon Picker I created bookmarks for each of the sites I use (Basecamp, Backpack, Campfire and Highrise) and for each one I downloaded the PNG file from the main 37signals.com site. You click properties on the bookmark and then can use “browse” to choose the PNG file to be used as the favicon in the bookmark folder AND it is also used in the tab. I use this together with the addon FavIconize Tab to save me a lot of real estate AND my tabs are real pretty. |

Another vote for a favicon. In this world of web applications, a site without a favicon is like a application without an icon. By all means let your users change the icon to customise the app, but I’m sure my clients would prefer any bookmark friendly icon rather than the default. |

Please do change this. I understand that Safari doesn’t let you see the favicon in the toolbar but FireFox & Google Chrome do show the favicon. I’m not pretending to know all the dynamics involved but I know a favicon can be made in 2 mins and can be added to a website with 1 line of code. Please add this. I really don’t know how to ask nicer than this. |
