I recently upgraded my account for the time tracking feature.

• I wanted clients to log their own time, to show how much time they were putting into their own project
• I wanted to show how much time I spent on their task, so they knew where their money was going.
• An idea of how much time the project cost, regardless if I wasn’t billing them for the time.

What I didn’t know until after I upgraded was only users under my company could track or see time.
I use Basecamp so I can keep my clients informed, and participate, why shouldn’t my clients have use to time tracking?

To call it anemic is to be generous.

I agree, Andrew: time tracking should certainly be available to clients, perhaps off by default, but certainly with the ability to switch it on for them. New feature maybe?

I agree 100%. Sharing time info with clients was my intention and main goal. Hopefully this will be available soon.

It would be brilliant if clients could let us in on how much time they’ve spent speaking, thinking, and working with us.

...MY REALITY
As it stands with the projects I manage,
it is challenging to get them to keep on top of Messages and Milestones,
much less provide intricate details about their Time in the project!

Why is this?
Most likely, the projects we all do
are for a limited time in our clients’ eyes;

Time tracking is good for us, but a chore for the clients…

The only billable time we have is for extras and generally it would fall to me, the project manager, not the design team to work out what is billable or not. So the current process works well for us.

I’m a big fan of the time tracking feature as it is implemented – especially the ability to track it within a to-do list. I do wish I could track consultants time (rather let them track their own time). I am glad that it’s not available to clients. I bill by the project, so the hours are just numbers for my analysis later.

I suggest you try Pacific Timesheet.com
It allows you to punch in percentage of your daily time onto different projects. It also allows the approval has all the rights for contractors, employee, etc. 9/80 compressed overtime scheduling is the thing i used a lot.
