Hours predicted versus time spent?

Can you use basecamp when assigning projects to track hours predicted will be needed for the project versus time actually spent? I noticed that you can track time for each task, but not sure if when initially creating the task you can enter how much time you expect it to take and then run a report on the difference. |

Hi Lesley: We have worked around this by adding the estimated hours to each task in a to-do list. For example to-do list task would look like this: Implement Static Pages – (15 Hours) We then export a .csv of the time log at the end of the project (or at any progress report points), use the “Text to Columns” feature in Excel on the “todo” column and use ”- (” as the delimiter. This will separate the estimated hours into another column and allow you to run reports on estimated vs. actual time spent. Hope that is helpful for you. Andrew |

I’ve wrestled with this, but ended up signing up for www.getharvest.com. It seems to working very well so far. We’ve had it for about a week. It works with basecamp. |

I’m using harvest as well. Been using it for a couple of months now in my new business. It works great for integration with BaseCamp. And, I use the widget a lot as well (on my dashboard) that picks up all the other billing stuff (like meetings, phone calls, etc). |

TimeFox gives very good time reports and tracks actual vs estimate as well. |
