Maybe milestones need to be more granular?

Ramping up on basecamp, sort of struggling with how to organize the project. I think what I’m finding is that maybe milestones need to be more granular than one might think, given the name.

  • Milestones have dates.
  • To-do items cannot have dates, only an order within the to-do list. To-do lists can be associated with milestones (but not with messages, except by embedding links manually).
  • Messages can be associated with milestones as well (but not with to-do items, except by embedding links manually)
  • Comments can be attached to messages, not to to-do items or milestones.
  • Writeboards are shared documents and cannot be associated with anything (except by embedding links manually)
  • Files cannot be associated with anything (again, except by embedding links manually)
So conceptually it seems to work best if one thinks of
  1. one milestone
  2. + one or more todo list
  3. + one or more messages
as one ‘bundle’, all related to each other. Trying to make relationships outside of this bundle is a pain.

Am I missing something obvious? The lack of easy linking, particularly to files and writeboards, seems to be a real deficiency…

thx
