Multiple Admins

Hi

We are using basecamp with 2 admins. Is it possible to prevent some projects being seen by the ‘other’ admin. While we share some projects, we also have some that are dicreet to one admin. It would help declutter each admins dashboard if we can show only our ‘own’ projects.

Help appreciated.

Matt

Admins only have access to the projects they are given access to see. Their permissions are treated like everyone else. The only person that can see everything all the time is the account owner.

Okay, so I could give someone Admin access and allow them to create new projects, but they would only see the projects they created and ones they are assigned to. Correct?

I believe if they are part of your company, you can check off an option to give them access to all future projects

I don’t want them to have access to all projects, just be able to CREATE new projects. Is this possible?

Admins don’t have access to all projects. They only have access to projects they have access to see. Any admin can add/remove any other admin from a project. The only person with access to every project is the account owner.

But Admins can create new projects, right? No one has answered that for me yet.

Scott, this is explained where you give people admin access inside Basecamp:

Administrators can also create and edit projects

There’s also a help entry on it:

http://www.basecamphq.com/help/people/#give_admin_access

Administrators can create and edit projects, manage companies and people, edit other people’s posts, change project-level permissions, and change global settings.”

I am unable to remove myself from seeing projects, both ones I created and ones created by the owner. I just see the green tick. I am part of a company that has been given access to see the project. Is there a way I can remove just myself?

You can’t remove yourself from a project. Another admin has to remove you.

If you’re the account owner you can’t be removed from any projects. The account owner has access to all projects.

We have the opposite problem. We have two admins and we need to be sure that both of us can automatically see all projects the other creates. We have noticed though that if you check the ADMIN box in editing people, the box that says ‘add this person to all future projects (or something like that)’ becomes UNCHECKED. You can only have one checked at a time. So if you are admin you do not get to automatic access to all new projects, or if you have automatic access to all new projects your admin setting is re-set and you are no longer admin. Is this supposed to be that way, or is that a bug? We really need to be able to check both boxes and have all admins get access to all new projects automatically.

Can someone help?

Phil, thanks for pointing this out. We’ll get that glitch fixed and will push an update out tonight.

Very good: Admins can only access projects to which they’ve been assigned. It didn’t use to be this way, but thank heavens it is now.

It’s worth pointing out that when someone has admin access they have full access to the complete list of contacts for every project on the account (via Dashboard – People). It might be better if they only have access to the projects which they have been granted access. On the other hand, if the Admin is adding people to a project, he might make a double entry if he doesn’t have the full list.

Neither resolution is really satisfactory. Perhaps a suggestion field when an admin creates a new identical user (separate check on last name and email: if either match make the suggestion).
