This is a topic in How are you using Basecamp?

Subprojects, milestones, and dated to-dos

We just signed up for Basecamp and learning how to use it.

It doesn’t seem to be possible to create subprojects. For instance, we have a large conference we organize, but then have separate topics with different contractors – marketing, content, etc. Right now they appear to all need to be individual projects to keep contractors in their portals and not on the rest of it, correct? But then you can’t track it all under one project heading.

What’s the different between a milestone and a to-do? I view a milestone as a big deliverable – report due March 15, and to-dos as the little things that get you there – write chapter 1, research table, etc. But why can’t you date date and organize to-dos like milestones? In order to date to-dos, you have to use Milestones like a to-dos, which removes a layer of organization, correct? It seems like you need both, but are limited to one.

Personally I’d like to see the ablity to assign tasks to Milestones (which I think solves your problem). But neither are ever going to happen…

You can assign a todo list to a milestone….

Correct. You don’t need to date todo’s, they can be tied to a milestone which has a date, you can organise their priority by order.
