Firefox Prism

We’ve just started using Basecamp with Mozilla Firefox Prism, a new piece of software that allows you to run web apps as a desktop app. It’s in beta now and only on Firefox for Windows, but it looks very promising! If you’re interested, here’s the link to it: http://labs.mozilla.com/2007/10/prism/ It will be interesting how this changes things in the future of web application design. |

37 Signals have already weighed in on these kinds of things. http://www.37signals.com/svn/posts/347-youre-not-on-a-fucking-plane-and-if-you-are-it-doesnt-matter |

I think that’s talking about a different thing. This program doesn’t allow for offline web apps necessarily, but provides an opportunity for a web application to function as a desktop application. So we’re using Basecamp as a desktop app, which allows for direct connection between the application and the internet without all the bottleneck of a browser. |

It’s still buggy but I really don’t see what the big deal is. I fact, there’s loads of convenient browser interface stuff missing from Prism that makes Basecamp less usable. |
