File Management

I’ve just subscribed the service an hour ago. Therefore this question may have been answered. Is there any way to group files in folder or better yet any way to tag file with custom attributes/names. That will help searching files big time. Currently the file management is only by category. |

Categories are pretty much the same thing as folders. You can create as many categories as you’d like. Just assign files to a relevant category when you upload them. |

Jason It’s often necessary to file a file under several categories…like gmail labels. Can we have that functionality, pls? |

I agree about the multiple categories suggestion. Or maybe another way to look at it is sub-categories. For example: If I have a category named “Design Comps”, and I want to group multiple sets of design comps as they are revised, currently I would have to create categories like “Design Comps”, “1st Round Comps”, “2nd Round Comps”, etc. But the problem with that is if someone wants to look at the history of all the comps, they have to go through each category. And, some users may use the wrong category if the labels are not clear or if there are too many. If there were sub-categories, I could use “Design Comps” as a header, then create as many subs as I needed. That way, a user could just click on the first category and see all the child categories associated with it. |

Wouldn’t the use of ‘tags’ instead of hierarchical folders solve this issue? (and aren’t they are more ‘web 2.0’ |

MCompeau, what are tags? How are they used? gbs |

I requested tags once, but was told that tags are too confusing for many people. Though that still may be the case, I believe it’s changing as more and more people get exposed to them. gbsales, it’s kind of like keywords. You can assign multiple ones to each item you have, in a tagging system. |
