Todays tasks listed as overdue!

There is a bug in the tasks part of highrise. Tasks for today get listed as overdue. I’ve also had a case where a task for 2 weeks time was listed as overdue. This may be happening when you change an existing task’s date.

An annoying but workable temporary workaround:
If you click ‘edit’ on an overdue task, and click the dropdown box arrow on the date, click Today, and save, it moves it to the “today” group.

Yep. Same here. It has been suggested it is a time zone thing but this is incorrect. It seems to change tasks set for Tomorrow to Overdue at the beginning of “tomorrow”.

It has got to the point where I’m ignoring the date context for my tasks and just churning through them from top to bottom.

If 37s succumb to the “To-Do-Date” crew, I would hate to think that this kind of thing infects BC where the majority of our workflow is managed. We’d spend all our time just changing dates.

We’ve just started using HR and noticed this too. Tasks scheduled for today are, this morning, showing as overdue. In my opnion, they are not overdue until tomorrow. Can 37S shed some light on this approach – is it deliberate and if so why (I’m sure there is a good reason).

That sounds mighty annoying. We’re looking into this. I’ll report back when we know more.

Update: Tasks due today show as overdue as we know but when I edit one it still shows due as Today in the date box!!

Rich, are you sure you aren’t editing a task at 10am that was due at 9am, for example? That would still be “today” but it would be overdue.

Avatar richallum 619 posts

Jason – the ones I refer to were set up for example yesterday by selecting ‘today’ and not 5 Jul or a specific time.

Another interesting facet of this:

If I had set a task up yesterday as due ‘tomorrow’ it would now be showing as overdue.
If I set a task up today as being due today, it shows as due today.

Both tasks are due on the same day – one is overdue and one is not.

No times were set.

There is the same bug with due to “Next week”. At the beginning of the week the tasks are not due to “This week” but “overdue”!

Yep, we have the EXACT issue that richallum describes.

No new information about this bug?

Hi guys,

Sorry for the lack of updates. We’re still looking into this. I hope to have something more concrete soon.

Hi David,

good news: I’m really waiting for this bug to be corrected!

Just here to say: Same bug, same request to solve it! ASAP! :-) Bad to start a week when all tasks for the week are shown as overdue.

All: if you are having this issue, please email me directly (jamis at 37signals dot com) and let me know the following info:

  • Your Highrise URL
  • The specific tasks that are showing as overdue, which ought not to be overdue.

Thanks. So far, none of us here are able to duplicate the problem, which makes it very difficult to troubleshoot. The more information we can gather on this, the more likely we’ll be able to nail it.

(I should also state that time is of the essence when reporting this bug: if too much time has elapsed since you noticed it, we might be unable to use your information to track down the bug. So please, if you see this happening on a task, email me immediately at the address given above, with the information I mentioned above!)

James,

All mine with the problem have passed through now. I have set up a a test task for tomorrow and will email you details then.

Avatar Jamis Buck Administrator 123 posts

Alright, I believe we have found and fixed this problem. If you ever see a task jump straight from “tomorrow” to “overdue”, please let me know right away, with the information I requested above, and I’ll look into it further. Sorry for that strange bug!

Avatar richallum 619 posts

James,

Does this mean next weeks tasks all showing as overdue at the start of next week has been fixed too?

Avatar oscar7g 364 posts

James,

I’ve just flicked you an email with the details of my account.
My Tomorrow tasks were changed to Overdue this morning.

James, my tomorrow tasks are now showing as today (just turned midnight). BUT my dashboard is now behaving strange – everything done on 31 Jul is showing as today and everything done today is showing 1 Aug! Have emailed support.

Avatar Jamis Buck Administrator 123 posts

(Not that it really matters, but my name is “Jamis”, not “James”, thanks. :) We’ll keep investigating this issue, then.)

Avatar richallum 619 posts

Sorry Jamis. Dashboard sorted itself out now.

Oops! That means you wouldn’t have got my support email. I’ll send it again.

Thanks Jamis, the tasks set as Tomorrow are now switching to Today and not Overdue.

Now I had better go and do them before they really are Overdue.

Hi Jamis,

good to see this bug should be corrected. I just set a task for tomorrow and another one to the specific date tomorrow. I will see if they are still overdue or set to today and tell you!
