37signals Open Bar Single Sign-on now includes Highrise

When we launched the 37signals Open Bar a few weeks ago it only supported Basecamp accounts.

That was then, this is now

Now the Open Bar includes your Highrise accounts too. So now you have single sign-on for both Basecamp and Highrise accounts. Log into any one of your accounts and you’re logged into all your accounts.

Access to multiple accounts via a dropdown

We made some changes with this recent push. First, if you have multiple accounts under a single product you’ll see them listed in a dropdown menu when you hover over the product name (see below).

Helpful delay

Second, we added a little delay on hover so the menu doesn’t drop down when you trail over it while reaching for the Back button or any of your browser shortcuts.

Smart bar

Lastly, and most useful, we made Open Bar smarter. Now it remembers the last place you were when you left one account for another. This means when you return to the previous account you were using it will drop you right back where you left off.

We hope you find it useful

We’ve been loving the Open Bar. We hope you love it as much as we do. Backpack is the next app to be added to the Open Bar. Stay tuned.

othello—are you using openID on both accounts?

You’ll only see the openbar if you’re using openID.

yes, openid on both accounts

Othello, please make sure that the same OpenID URL is set for both accounts. If that’s the case, try logging out and back in again. If you’re still not seeing both accounts, please email support with the names of both accounts and we’ll look into it further.

This is fantastic—I love it. Only problem is that my subscribed iCals will no longer authenticate now, as they expect both a uid and password. I tried my OpenID in the username field with no success.

Any way around this issue? (I’m using iCal, btw)

Scott, click on My Info in the top right corner of a Basecamp page and you’ll see a section that’s titled “Using OpenID with APIs and RSS/iCal Feeds”. Now, click on the use this username/password link, and you’ll see the username and password that you should use for iCal subscriptions.

Thanks, Mark. Doesn’t seem to work for me—not sure why. I tried re-subscribing, though, and don’t seem to be getting the challenge/response any more.

I have just signed up for BackPack; the openbar there shows basecamp, highrise and backpack.

The open bar in both Basecamp and Highrise, however does not show Backpack.

Well, now openbar shows all three applications in all three applications (BC, HR, BP).. Not sure what changed. I restarted computer before and it did not cure the problem (HR & BC showing in open bar for Backpack, but Backpack not showing in openbar for HR or BC).
