Topic: Backpack calendar and Highrise tasks

Better yet, have the other apps feed into the BP calendar. If you could subscribe to your tasks (in addition to milestones) from HR and BC, the calendar could really come into its own.

Caveat: subscribing to external feeds is great for stuff like holidays and Red Sox games, but the other 37signals apps should use a different protocol. Your BP calendar really should update from its sister apps in realtime.

Topic: Unable to attach emails to case from dashboard

Actually, I take that back. I was able to duplicate it, finally, and it should be fixed now. If it isn’t, please contact support and let us know what it takes to duplicate the problem. Thanks!

Topic: Unable to attach emails to case from dashboard

I can’t seem to duplicate this problem—attaching an email to a case from the dashboard works okay for me. If you are having this issue, please contact support and let us know which email in your account is having the problem, and which case you’re trying to attach it to. Thanks!

Topic: Unable to attach emails to case from dashboard

For some reason we are unable to attach emails to a case from the dashboard. We go through the steps to do so, and after saving the changes, the email is still not attached. Help.

Topic: Multiuser question

We’ve chosen to focus the new direction of Backpack predominately on multi-user accounts, so the main track of plans go from free to home to basic and so forth.

But we still want everyone who’s been using Backpack with the previous focus to get everything they were at the same price, so we’ve allowed everyone to continue with the same features at the same price as before. Despite the fact that this price is much lower than the other new paying multiuser plans.

The solo plan retains this “exception” idea at a similar price point. Just like we have Highrise Solo, even though Highrise is also now predominately a multi-user product.

If you want to play with Backpack in multi-user form, you’re more than welcome to signup for a free account and try it out. If it’s something you like, the first multi-user plan is the home plan at $12.

Hope that clears it up.

Hi,

Still not as smooth as Basecamp – but a couple features I do like and appreciate are the risk register and the access to the time-tracking. Time tracking maybe useful to me within Basecamp, but I as it isn’t an option for me I don’t know. Also, working with clients, it is my understanding that you can’t track client time for collaborative projects in Basecamp.

This is not legal and we’ve been in touch with the people behind this other product. Our lawyers will be getting involved shortly if they don’t comply. Thanks for your concern.

Topic: Is this legal?

I use BaseCamp, but have just looked at the ‘teamwork’ FAQ:

Is my information safe?

Absolutely. We safeguard and protect your data in a number os ways. This is a bit technical but these are a few of the reasons you data is safe with us.

1. We use salted password hashes instead of plain-text passwords (Many other online applications don’t implement this).

This is true of BaseCamp, it uses plain-text passwords, which should be changed ASAP, I have tried to raise this issue earlier this year. The feedback from the BaseCamp team was this would be fixed towards the end of 2007, I’ll check in January ;)

Well, I’m pleasantly pleased to hear you’re not a promoter.

I must confess a lingering doubt. If you were truly an ethics scout why broadcast for the benefit of the shameless rip-offs? A discreet email to 37Signals might have been more effective.

Opionatedly yours,

Michael.

Wow, blatant rip-off.

I’m curious, is this new user faeringen, with one post to his credit, a conscientious watch dog or a thinly veiled promoter of this new competition? My chips are on the latter.

My observation and comment …

The alternative site looks nice. While completely ripping off 37 signals it has managed to improve the aesthetics and address a few of the shortcomings of the ‘long in the tooth’ basecamp.

However, a company that would so shamelessly rip off another’s intellectual property would probably rip you and me off just as quickly, so there’s no way they’ll be getting my credit card info.

For the latest in particularly lame fiction read the ‘Our Story’. At least the OpenCollab club have the stones to acknowledge the impetus and source of their ‘creation’.

Later.
