Topic: Due dates for To-Dos

@Neil Caithness, any idea if and when this add-on will go live?

Topic: Creating new account from email forms

Just got my PHP form to work. You need to trick Highrise into thinking it’s getting a forward from your email address.

- I added a second set of variables to customize the message being sent to Highrise, and to change the ‘from’ address to be the email address corresponding to the dropbox address being used.
- Have the form send a second email using these new variables to your dropbox address using “Fwd: ...” as the subject (this is the key), and with your own email as the from as stated above.

Highrise will receive the email thinking it was forwarded from you, and as long as you have a proper “From: Name <email@email.com>” in the message body somewhere, it should add the person and the message just fine.

I’m not entirely sure how to include details like “Company” and “Phone Number”, assuming these were part of the original form fields. Guess this is where the API comes in.

If a todo is time sensitive, seems better to add it to a calendar – not necessarily in basecamp.

ashant – forum participants like you and I. That’s why they ask for donations, because they too are donating their own time and resources.

If that’s the case, who does the fees we pay go to?

Agreed. I am a brand new user… I’ve essentially been building my business “with” basecamp, which is great so far however obviously missing a significant PM piece. Moving forward in BaseCamp is dependent on this PM piece being integrated… any updates would be great!!

Topic: Due dates for To-Dos

Hi all.
I am working on a very basic Gantt interactive editor in Silverlight (www.gganttic.com)
The key word is interactive – meaning one can drag and drop things around.

I am considering integrating with BC, and need your collective advice.

Presently it takes tasks from and saves to Google Spreadsheets.
It is currently a very Alpha state, and I don’t rush it because Silverlight 2.0 is still itself in beta.
I am currently reviewing BC’s API.

If todo items had start / due dates they would easily become tasks. But it does not nor we know when and if it will.
What can we do instead with the existing features?
- disregard todos and only place milestones as milestones
- assume that milestones are tasks in a waterfall model – one milestone starts when the previous one ends.
- assume milestones as a group tasks (though gganttic will not have group tasks in 1.0 version) covering period from previous milestone and spread todos equally over the period
- use auxiliary means to store task information, like attached spreadsheet or separate account on Google Spreadsheets? (I would hate to do this- too complex and both BC and gGanttic is all about simplicity)

Please share your thougths here or on gganttic.com site or email me to basecamp_integration at gganttic and obviously dot com

is money the issue this project isn’t moving forward? i think with the kind of response this post is triggering, many of us can provide ‘donations’ to move this along. Also – we have a full development staff, so if you’re limited on resources, maybe we can help?

Topic: Due dates for To-Dos

I am vastly relieved that someone is working on a solution such as this. We’ve twisted turned and bent Basecamp as far as we can go in order to use it for actual “Project Management”. I have a team using it extensively and we experience all of the above issues; a ToDo without a timeline just filters down into obliviion once you add many over the life cycle of numerous projects. Plus, then team members have absolutely no idea what the dependencies are in the real world and projects can fall off the map in terms of progress as the are not in synch.

We need:
  • Dependencies (desperately)
  • ToDos associated with due dates
  • A way to filter those to a “today” view to be able to see what the Priority of the To Do is
  • Reporting features!!! A major missing piece of basecamp in my opinion
  • Private milestones (hate that the client can see all milestones, this makes it pretty limited)

What’s the real world timeline on this API? I am shopping for new options today, as we are outgrowing what we can do with Basecamp currently.

Thanks.

Count me in as a vote to put due dates on Todos….

I run two different teams in India…. I find that if I have to create Milestones for every time I want to set a due date they just get confused.

To me it would be so simple.

Project – Wordpress PPC Sites
Milestone – XYZ.com – Due Sept 30th
Tasks – Create Home page – Due Sept 5th
Tasks – Create Message Board – Due Sept 7th
Tasks – Create sub pages – Due Sept 25th

Having the ability to set a due date on Todo lists would save me tons of time.

Man, I love the sounds of this add-on. I just can’t for the life of me understand why 37S hasn’t been working on some of this functionality.

I’m very interested.

Topic: Basecamp for assigning help tickets

This sounds like a tool that would be helpful in our case. We are an in-house creative team and currently use an html submission form that send an email to the appropriate manager. We want to integrate something like this into Basecamp if possible. Would the “helpdesk integration” you speak of be a generic ticket creation tool or more specific to IT soultions?

Thanks in advance.

Can I just add my vote for due dates on Todos? At least make it optional?

Update.

I contacted Jeff. We use Wufoo forms and they don’t permit the modifications he would need to make.

The search goes on….

Topic: Recurring Milestones!!!!!!

I manually enter recurring milestones using the “Enter 10 milestones at a time” page. However, the functionality that would really be useful is if when I created a single milestone, I could say “This one recurrs” and then basecamp would say to me “How many days, weeks, months to the next occurance” and ask me “recur forever or stop at a certain future date”, and then it would appear as a single milestone—until I check it off, as done. Then it would leave a shadow of itself as completed with the date I check it off, but move itself to the next recurrance date.

I know that there are some subtleties about the right way to do this. If a milestone is completed “later than schedule”, does the increment of time to the next scheduling occur from the data completed or from the target date? So one choice is for Basecamp, after I mark a recurring milestone completed, is to ask me when to schedule the next one for.

Thank you,
Bob

Topic: Due dates for To-Dos

Being a professional project manager I would love to see BC include the ability to create dependancies between tasks, include durations and level of effort, and show it in a calendar or gantt chart. However, sometimes that will be overkill for the projects we use Basecamp for. Will the system allow you to choose either complex or simple tasks? What happens if I want to track due date and level of effort but not dependencies?

I am wondering how the task list itself will look once a due date is arrived. Will I be able to look at my simple list and see all dates or will I have to go to the the gant chart (which from the screenshot is not helpful) and message (which requiers yet more drill down to find information related to a todo than I want to have to do). Look at the way central desktop handles it. Nice and clean. Owner, task and due date all on one line.

I’m also interested in any news on the status of this for GA

Topic: "Link" from Jott.com

Can there be a “Link” set up so that we can post “to do” items via Jott.com to Basecamp? Jott.com already has some basic To Do list features, but I am sure current basecamp users would like to use their better featured basecamp accounts instead.

Topic: Recurring Milestones!!!!!!

Seems like such a basic feature… please add it soon!

We need to be able to tell it to make the milestone repeat on a regular basis (daily, weekdays, weekly, monthly on specific date, monthly on day of month, annually on specific date). Manually entering all of these is taking FOREVER!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! :)

Thanks,
Julie

Topic: Due dates for To-Dos

Just a quick follow-up. We’ve been adding dates manually to the beginning of the title for our todo items, and it has been working quite well. I still would love to have a real ‘due’ date, but everyone on our team is making a habit of watching for the upcoming items and handling them on time.
