Topic: Super Private message? Messages

My two cents for this:

Leave it like it is.
If PRIVATE would be more flexible the door is open for unpleasant mistakes.
I don’t see this ever happen since it doesn’t apply to 37s vision of open communication.
Which I agree with, makes live much easier

@ Alan Armstrong, your client cannot see the time logged. Only people in your own company can see time logged.

Topic: Message (Close once completed)

I agree about having a way to sort messages. Having a tag for open / closed or even sorting capabilities like the file categories would be very useful.

There’s another issue here: Some project-related info should be private between project lead and client lead. Some project info is private between the contractors.

I have a client project with a fixed billable amount, and I don’t want my client seeing the hours logged. CAn’t seem to make that private. Why??

I’m no guru but I can tell you with with with reasonable confidence based on 37s’ history that it will not come to fruition as it violates three 37s principles: (1) BC is about open group communications (2) would result in a larger code base to maintain (3) would require extra effort, effort that will not yield tangible benefit (increase in sales / revenue).

Yes this feature is actually required here to make basecamp a complete solution.

This has come up before – someone posted a similar message, a couple of people commented positively, and that’s all that happened.

We have freelancers working for us that we’d like to include on projects but only want them seeing our communication with them. We would like client/us communication kept from the freelancers and freelancer/us communication kept from the client. We ended up merging the freelancers into our company but now they see everything internal. Any suggestions?

As a temporary workaround, just create a new project and give access to it only to those people.

Topic: Security / Backups

is there any way to get a backup of data that was just lost?
I think I stupidly deleted a user and their pages went with it although they were “our” pages, not just theirs

Topic: How do we turn off "Automatic Reply Email" functionality?

Agreed – turn the damn thing off. Or at least give us a way to turn it off.

Clients are being lazy and just responding with email and failing to enter the project and see everything else that is going on.

We do not want all this email. We use BC to decrease email. Now it is doing the opposite.

BC is not broken – please stop trying to fix it.

I recently lost a page somehow or another that couldn’t be recovered.

As far as I know after searching online, the only options are to email the page to yourself, use packrat (via the API), or export the XML bit. None of those options however give you the actual uploaded content you’ve added.

As I’ve replied more and more on Backpack for being the primary source of certain content, this is an increasingly critical feature… especially if you want to make the Corporate Intranet argument.

Just my $0.02.

packrat is ok but expensive and I don’t need the “offline” features.
Maybe a simple app based on the API ? Just an export/import tool.

It sure would be nice if you had a way to import from that file, though.

You can export your text data whenever you want. Click the “Account” link then the “Export your data to XML format” link.

A backup on demand or on schedule would be great! It’s one of my top concernes before expanding (and upgrading, and paying for) my use of the service.
